What are some gifts given directly from God that are not eternal, spiritual included?

I'm not sure that I understand your question. Are you talking about such gifts as singing?

Well, eternal life is a gift, and some maintain that certain gifts have ceased, and it got me to thinking if God can give a gift that is not eternal. I think singing would be more of a talent, no?

    (1) God said some gifting to the Church would stop when the complete/perfect came. Such as "special revelation" or "message from God" or "unknown language".

If someone says that they exercise of those temporary gifts, they are de facto SUPERCEDING the Bible. After all, they have just as much authority as Philippians or Colossians.

By the turn of the first century most Christians knew and accepted the authority of the revealed canon (some fussing over a couple of books that might or might not be inspired continued until AD 350, but minor).

The modern glossalia nonsense and special "gifts" came only in the past century. And, of course, in cults and demonic/pagan religions that still practice them today.

    (2) Another area are special ministering gifted men to the Church. Do we have apostles (which apostolic authority?) still today? Yet God gave to some that gift. Eph 4 elders and teachers are valid, but have never seen an apostle, prophet (actually giving prophecy revealed to him and no one else) or even evangelists. Seen many who CLAIMED such, but never any proof.

    Esp "evangelists". What a load of . . .

What is the "perfect" that was to come?

If I'm wrong, Dr. Bob will correct me, but I think he's referring to the completed canon, which contains all of God's revelation we need.

Which is a popular interpretation of 1 Cor 13:10 among Baptists and protestants, but incorrect. Take the context (esp v.12) into consideration and you'll find the "perfect" in verse 10 is not referring to the canon of scripture.

Okay, in your view, what is the "perfect?"

I think that's probably what he's referring to which is amazing since he believes that the only infallible (perfect) word of God was the original manuscripts, which aren't in existence anymore. So I guess the "perfect" came and went.

The perfect is referring to the age or time when believers are complete (as in complete knowledge, maturity), and that has not yet come.

I think the life I have is a gift from God. I think scripture is a gift from God. I think fellowship is a gift from God. I think my home is a gift from God. And, as the previous post said, the list is endless.
