So my husband and I just watched this documentary on Westboro Baptist Church...

    To state simply,

    IT SCARED ME.

They picket soldier's funerals, saying God killed them and they should burn in Hell. Lots of other crazy stuff.

Anyone else heard of these crazy folks? Their cult really gives Baptist churches a bad name. Poor people are so brainwashed. They so need to get saved...

What a sad life to lead, believing in the hatred of God and never knowing the LOVE of God. Lives filled with hate are unfulfilled...

I can't put up certain pictures because some of their signs have bad language and pictures on em. You get the idea from these pics tho:

"Their cult really gives Baptist churches a bad name.?"
Since when is the Baptist church the focal point. Why is it not the Lord Who this is bringing shame on?
Certainly these people are out of line. What they say may not be too far off from reality, but saying it like they do is a serious and un-Christ like action and should not be tolerated by the church. The church should speak up loud and clear against this kind of activity.

If you've seen the last make of "Poltergeists", the one done before the little girl died (in real life), the "demon" there, the guy in the black suit and the black Amish-like hat, is eerily similar to Fred Phelps. Makes me wonder if Phelps was a former bit player. lol.

    seriously ?
    don't take them seriously.
they're world class idiots, as far as I'm concerned.
And if they ever come to our place to mock a hero's death and funeral, I wouldn't mind planting a fist or two on their noses.

They are so small and insignificant that they are no real threat to anything. I watched a documentary on them a while back, perhaps the same one you watched, and noticed that it is mostly one family that makes up that silly little church.

What makes me mad is their poor kids. Making them hold those signs. Brainwashing them in this craziness.

I don't think what they say is close to reality, God doesn't HATE people, He hates their SINS. God loves the whole world (John 3:16!) He wants to save people!

Unsaved people that look at these people, and the documentary that's out there, probably think "I never want to become a Christian! Look at those crazies!!"

I know about one fellow who "escaped" from that church, and is now an Athiest because of them. If his view of Christianity was Westboro Baptist Church, could you blame him? Poor fellow. He thinks God is a God of hatred and now has chosen not to believe in Him.

Nate Phelps, son of the "minister" left his family and church years ago and moved to Canada. He has also become an atheist.
According to the video below, Nate beacame an athiest after a conversation with his young son.

This link has a 30 minute TV video with Nate.

After watching a few minutes, I find it very informative. It appears that Nate is very level headed. Unfortunately his dads misguided doctrine has turned Nate off to the Lord.

    Lets pray for Nate.

While their actions are serious and lacking truth and taste, these kind of activities do not hinder the lost and keep them lost. Nor does it cause someone to become an atheist.
Matt 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

    Uhm yes it does actually......

Anything a Christian or supposed Christian does to keep one out of Church or drive them to disbelief is a hindrance.

Uh no it does not according to scripture.
John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

John 3:19-21 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

People are lost because they love sin and hate truth (darkness and light). People enter into false religions for the same reason. Atheism is just another realm of hating truth. No one can drive an unbeliever to unbelief. They are already in unbelief. And no one can drive a believer to unbelief because they are kept.

    You are very correct.
The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

Well, I know that in my case it's true. God commended His love toward me in that while I was yet a sinner, Christ died for me.

Caustic much? Why doubt what she said? Give the newbie some credit. If it scared her it scared her. Plus, she's a Christian lady, so treat her as such.

BTW, your text about God commending His love toward us (Romans 5:8) does not do away with the texts Iconoclast gave, which are truth, and also supported by freeatlast. I agree with what the Word says, and Iconoclasts post.

Both have a context. One doesn't cancel out the other.

I wonder where Westboro's finances come from. It is a small group and mostly, I gather, the Phelps clan, but it must cost a bundle for them to be traveling around to all these funerals and other events.

I agree that the greater concern is the image that they project of who Christ is, but I do sometimes wish we could copyright the label "Baptist" and keep groups like this from using it!

They don't scare me but instead sadden me. It saddens me that Satan is using God's name to defame Him. I'm sad that there are people out there that truly feel that this is God's heart towards the world. I'm sad that these children are going to grow up in the home of the mentally ill. :(

You just opened a can of worms. I was going to leave that alone. But you would not let us!

God does hate sinners. The Bible is clear on this.

But he loves them at the same time. Don't know how- just accept that he does.

In another thread, I had a video about Jonah; a small girl was giving the story and said "Gods lover is greater than his wrath".!

I think that young lady has great theology!
