Why I am not excited (yet) about the 400th anniversary of the KJV

    First of all, I find it quite ironic that some KJV folks claim that one of the reasons for being "only" is because all of the other versions are just printed for profit, yet come the 400th anniversary of the KJV, there are a multiple of websites selling special editions of the KJV and other related paraphernalia.

    Secondly, although the additional focus and news coverage on the KJV is a good thing, I wonder just how much difference it will really make in our world other than to line the pockets of some shrewd businessmen. It would be great to see a revival come after all these years (may it be so, Lord!) but IMHO most of it will be just lifting up a respected translation or translators with little or no attention paid to the Author or to application of Biblical principles to our lives.

    I truly hope that I am wrong and the year 2011 brings great things through the celebration of the 400th birthday of the KJV, but at this point I see nothing but hoopla.

    The argument about profit is yet another illogical argument to try and prove something about the KJV. All versions make profits.

    I've heard most of it. One that was funny was a guy came along to preach about it (the 1611) at a fellowship. "How long is a baby in the womb? 9 months. In what chapter of Act did Paul get converted? 9. Now, what do the letters in 1611 add too? That's right folks, 9!!! (amens amens amens!!! and I feel uncomfortable) and how many letters in King James folks? That's right...9! Now, I am selling this book... (holds up a book for KJVO's) they sell out within 3 minutes.

    This is the actual logic used to "prove" the power and "onlyisms" about the "1611."

    I am glad I am out of that nonsense.

    I can't wait to use my Allan NASB.

    BTW 2011 will mark the 400th anniversary of the printing of the AV1611, not any KJV.

    I hope some will read the AV1611 (if they can) or at least its preface and see how foolish the only-sect looks for their false teaching.

    That said - you expect me to rant on the only sect any chance possible to try to warn others of the danger - I will be thankful for ANY publicity and ANY attention given to a decent translation of God's Word. Perhaps God will use this "hoopla" to cause one of His elect to read it and to be born again.

    I am truly excited about the 400th anniversary of the first printing of the KJV. I am celebrating my getting a £2 coin from the Royal Mint for Christmas. I think their words say it pretty well.

    The King James translation of the Holy Bible has had a major impact on my Christian life. I praise God for the many hours spent reading, studying, and memorising it.

    My celebration includes re-binding my 1732 KJV bible.

    It's nice to have a translation that is 400 years old and still being widely used. The issue that I see coming up is that I think there could be an increase in kjv only agenda materials out there.

    I came across one celebration of the 400th anniversary of the printing of the KJV that may have a KJV-only emphasis.
    It is scheduled to be May 2-3, 2011, in Washington, D. C. It seems to be hosted or sponsored by the Bible Nation Society. Does anyone know anything about that group?

    The web site for it is kingjames400.com

    I wonder about it because two of the featured speakers [Dr. David Sorenson and Dr. Phil Stringer] could be considered KJV-only.
