Ladies and Gentlemen, we have lost our country. The Republican and Democratic Parties must be real proud of themselves. :tear:

    1984 Arrives in America

    Drudge Report
    December 6, 2010

Big Sis to address public via telescreens at checkout lanes.

WASHINGTON — Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano today announced the expansion of the Department’s national “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign to hundreds of Walmart stores across the country—launching a new partnership between DHS and Walmart to help the American public play an active role in ensuring the safety and security of our nation.

    OK

    So what's the problem?

Do you not want the public engaged in watching for signs of terrorist activities? Is it just a police matter and the public should shut their collective eyes and mouths?

I don't know all the details of the program, but on the surface I see nothing to be alarmed about. If you haven't had an increased sense of awareness since 911, maybe you're the problem.

Looks like needless alarmism to me.

No but here's the problem. Someone you cut off on the highway, or bump into in Wal-Mart can report you anonymously and have swat beat down your door without any warrant or actual intelligence gathering or surveillence.

This is why it's so dangerous.

Not that *we* would watch out for one another...

But, that the Government is over reacting and apt to make examples out of law abiding citizens!

Last night I watched a local news report where a neighborhood of seniors were wtaching out for one another.

One of their neighbors were away and another neighbor watched a kid go around the side of the house. So, he got on his cell and called a bucnh of other neighbors and they surrounded the house, one of them with a hunting rifle. And, caught the kids coming out of the house with stolen handguns. They dropped the handgins and fled but one of the senior actually caught one of the 12 year olds and later the police hade the other three...

This is right. Janet Nepolitano is *WRONG*

During WW2---the German Gestapo(German State Police) gathered the bulk of their incriminating information from German citizens as they(the citizens) would report "suspicious" activity----IOW----citizens would "snitch" on themselves!!!

The Gestapo organization was nazi Germany's version of our Homeland Security----you couln't scratch an itch w/o becoming suspicious to another citizen and subsiquently being reported as being suspicious!!!

    Hmmm....well, I've seen something:
    • I've seen a scary-looking man named Janet who enjoys groping 80 year-old women (but has an aversion to checking 30 year-old muslim men for explosives).
    • I've seen an Attorney General give aid and comfort to the sworn enemies of the United States (giving them rights they are not granted--and allowing them to get off for crimes that should get them executed--but instead of being rewarded with a charge of treason, he's allowed to keep working. Oh, I've also seen that he's a flaming racist.
    • I've seen the last two presidents do their best to spend this country into bankruptcy: One because he was a buffoon in the area of finance (and a pathetic judge of competence--just ask "Brownie;"); the other, because he believes that the only solution to the problems we face if an expanded, all-powerful, limitless government that knows best for its subjects, and is perfectly willing to sacrifice freedom for "security" (or the illusion of it).
    • I've seen a government that actually has the gall to tell us to eat more vegetables. If I wanted to be nagged, I wouldn't have left home!
Ah yes, sir Janet, I've seen enough...

    I agree , in principle.

But the government has been asking for the same thing for the last nine years. How many cases of your above example can you document?

So, if you have knowledge of an individual gathering materials to make a bomb, will you be quiet about it and wait to see who he kills?

Anyone who has not read George Orwell's 1984 would be well served to do so posthaste.

I've read it. Some tv screens in Walmart does not equate to 1984. Sorry.

1984 is what happened after the TSA screenings, the "rat on your neighbor" screens in Wal-mart, etc., et al became commonplace, the norm, "the way things are."

There will come a day when we'll all see the same type screens everywhere, and we'll wonder if there was ever a time when we didn't have such screens.

And that, my friends, is the message of 1984.

What's wrong with the "rat on your neighbor" message? If my neighbor is breaking the law, I'll rat on him. What about you?

Of course I would; but this isn't about reporting people who are breaking the law; this is about whether the government is extending itself into areas it shouldn't.

What's the next step? Two-way television, where the same people who are monitoring the cameras on street corners can now randomly check in on your household?

We say we read the warnings, such as 1984 and we don't have to worry about them because we're now informed; but we've been accepting the creeping intrusion for years, one small "that's not so intrusive" step at a time.

At least I see your point Don. But some people just won't get it.

It's not difficult to see beyond this and what may come of it in the future. This is more than tattle-taling on your neighbor. I thought it was pretty simple, guess not.

I don't get it. "Big sis" says if you see something suspicious, speak up. Ok--but she doesn't tell us what "suspicious" behavior, specifically, we're looking for. It is shoplifting? Someone setting down a briefcase? Or is it more sinister, like, someone (GASP) buying ammo at the sporting goods counter? What if I happen to need coffee filters and matches at the same time? Do I get reported as a meth head or something?

Who gets to define "suspicious" and how can that be proven, anyway? I thought this was why stores hire security guards!:BangHead:

It almost reminds me of "Invasion of the Bodies Snatchers" where they came pointing at those who weren't "changed" yet. Makes me wonder if this will also be the method used by antichrist followers against believers.

So if we're all busy watching each other, who's watching the Islamic terrorists?

This is the problem as I see it. The government seems more determined to turn us all against one other by creating an atmosphere of suspicion and mistrust than protecting us from future terrorist attacks.

It's already been shown through various "reports" and "official" documents that our government thinks of us as the single biggest threat to it's hold on power. If you disagree with with Big Sis or question the official line then you are a threat. You must be watched. Have you noticed there is little or no mention of "Islamic" or "Muslim" threats in these reports?

How many of these so called reports have you all read now? I've posted all of them I've come across here at one time or another. So I know you've at least had the chance to read them.

Has any of it sunk in yet?

Citizen or not if you are a "suspected" threat you have no rights, can be held without charge indefinately, not allowed to speak to a laywer or friends, tried in a secret military court, etc. You are in other words guilty until proven innocent.

In the past, in this country we've always looked at this kind of treatment at the hands of government as un-american. This is the kind of things they did in Nazi Germany or the U.S.S.R not the USA.

In a word this is tyranny.

The question is, how long are we going to put up with it?

Freedom is dangerous! You all want to be free and safe. It will never happen! You pays your money and makes your choice. If the US government ignored all terrorists we would still have more people killed by drunk drivers than terrorists. We pay our money and make our choice - drunk driving is our national sport.

The Bible Belt has its fair share of drunk drivers! Sorry 'bout formatting.

Yeah well big bro and big sis are more worried about protecting themselves from citizens that do not believe or trust them than they are about protecting us from a real terrorist threat.

Maybe that's because there are so few real terrorists to be worried about.

We now know that . . . (if you've followed up after the headlines)

Most all of the terrorists and plots we've read about in the headlines turned out to be a few easily manipulated idiots led by an FBI informant who formed a "cell", came up with a plan and supplied all the material. Then the informant snitched on his idiots right before the fatal attack. Just in the nick of time. Makes for big headlines and secures future funding for today's "crime fighting units" but doesn't do a thing to make us any safer.
