    Check this out.

    grinchalert

I think this is completely unbelievable. What kind of message are they sending to the rest of the world?

First Baptist Dallas has a bit of a checkered past, so I suppose this is in line with its history.

    Still...

I am struggling with what the complaint is by the OP.

Is there a problem with this site that I am just not seeing?

    Thanks,

Sort plays to people's negativity imho. Also shows how out of touch they are as a church.

Of course the current pastor seems convinced being controversial is the best way to get people back to his pews.

When thousands are churches are doing Advent Conspiracy and positive Kingdom work, why must there always be a few who are intent on negative Kingdom work?

Hey PJ they also ask you to list the positive too.

I'm with MNJacob, I don't see the problem with this. Businesses that want to be politically correct need to be called out for being Grinches.

Just seems to be promulgating the practice of holding pagans to a Christian morality.

We live in a completely post-Christian context (particularly in large metro areas) and Christmas has become nothing more than a national shopping expression. Why ask people to label those individuals and institutions and thus place more distance between us and them?

Why with all the other options about giving back into the community, about aiding those who need it, about helping the helpless, why is this their framework of proclamation?

Seems to me Jesus was more worried about calling out the Pharisees and edifying the wounded than the opposite.

Thinkingstuff, you are right there is a lot of green on the site. I applaud that, but I still suggest it is a silly way to go about the practice of the Gospel.

The church that once was led by a champion of religious freedom George Truett, now is in the business bullying others into celebrating Christmas. My how the mighty have fallen. What a shame

Jeffress should end this thing now and apologize, which of course he won't because to hear him speak, he hasn't been wrong in a very long time.

go2church your response make me want to puke!!!

Never in my life time has the country been so sensitive to not offending the few at the expense of the many. Pretty soon it will come to where a church can't post it's name on a sign by the road because some poor Muslim or Wiccan is "offended." Nor can the US flag be displayed by a car dealership because an illegal immigrant might feel uncomfortable. The "Ginger Bread Man" will have to be called the "Ginger Bread Person" because some feminazi gets her underwear in a wad.

I don't see what the problem is...I like what they are doing! I am sick and tired of businesses bullying their employees into Christ eliminating, politically correct speech. I have seen it first hand, and if no one stands up, then it will just get worse.

    KUDOS, FBC Dallas!

They are saying "Let us express our religious beliefs without censorship, and quit forcing secularism on your employees."

Good for FBC! They are doing something good here.

It also seems to have all this site's liberals whining like little babies, so double kudos to them!

I agree. I hate to break it to them (and you who agree)...but Christians are not the only ones celebrating a man made holiday this time of year. To demand the world to act like believers is foolish.

I used to be one of those banging their fist demanding Happy Holiday's be removed, but have come to not only accept it but embrace it. It's pure legalism to demand "Christmas" is said and stupid to boycott anyone who doesn't say it.

On second thought, do it. It will leave those items on the shelf for when I need them.

...and Matt, disagreeing with them (and you) does not make one a liberal. If you hold to a man made holiday as a scriptural mandate, that is unabated legalism which is liberalism.

    [IMG]I heard the bells on the holidays;
    Their P.C. language to amaze.
The C-word's banned unless we stand
For Christ, who came to set us free.

    The heavn'ly hosts to shepards came;
The Lord and Savior's birth proclaim.
    Did either say "Happy Holdiay,"
Or go to Christ, who'll set them free?

The shepards left their flock in lay
To see the child in a box of hay.
    'Twas esoteric, not generic;
Only Christ can set us free.

The sun soon tops that tropic line,
    And many celebrate-- that's fine.
But let's be clear, and without fear,
Say Christ alone can set you free.

So, now it is legalism and "stupid" to shop at places that are like minded and avoid places that are not like minded?

You sure like the word legalism. Can you find some more places to through it around all willy nilly, without really understanding its meaning?

Also, please show me where I've said that Christmas is a scriptural mandate? I've also not said that disagreement with what they are doing will turn one into a liberal. I've just pointed out that it's the liberals (who were already liberal to begin with) that disagree with this.

Want some cheese with your whine webby?

Let me get this straight...you think it is acceptable for a store to instruct their employees not to say "Merry Christmas" (a national holiday), and then also that it is not O.K. for people who are against such censorship, to avoid shopping at these stores? Where is the logic in that?

Tell you what; if people think like you, Christians will be living in hiding in the next 20 years. There will be no praying in public places allowed, no evangelism, and no mention of Jesus in public. You, my friend, are blind apparently.

Let me tell you what happened to me last week. I was reading scripture to a crowd of people, on a public sidewalk, and was told I had to stop by a police officer, or he would take me to jail for harassment. We were not "Harassing" anyone. Mind you, this is in the "Bible belt," that is usually friendly to Christians, at least in a half hearted way.

Again, people better wake up, before we are silenced all together.

I haven't seen a liberal post on this thread yet.

I prefer "Merry Christmas." Of course, it's not just Kwanzaa and everything, too. We have New Year's Day and Thanksgiving that are part of this time of year. "Happy Holidays" shouldn't offend anyone.

I don't care for a mentality that tries to silence people from wishing a "Merry Christmas." I know what I celebrate and it's significance in my life.

My issue is that, as FBC Dallas increases this kind of controversy and gets groups of Christians involved, they are casting Christians in a very, very negative light.

Let's face it: Christians in this country love to have a negative identity, not in the sense that they look bad, but in the sense that their identity is all about how they are not like others.

Being a Christian should be a very positive identity; i.e., "we ARE" these things.

FBC has very checkered past under the leadership of Criswell, Gregory and this new dude. This just continues their increasingly segmented and mixed witness to the city of Dallas.

Thankfully, they're not the "momma church" they once were in that area.

You don't have to look very far to find it. In fact, you are the first person that is able to read one of the liberal's posts.

I hope you're feeling better, need me to hold your hair?

Christmas is a religious holiday it has nothing to do with America, apple pie or George Washington. To force others to put up trees or say Merry Christmas is wrong and violates the religious freedom of other individuals.

You are more then welcome to say Merry Christmas, I would in fact encourage Christians to do so, but you can't demand and threaten others into following the same practice. What if you lived in Yemen, would you want the majority to decided for you what, when and how you will celebrate religious holidays? Then why do want to enforce something now that we would never want to be done to us? I just don't get it

BTW It's not political correctness to allow others to say Happy Holidays or Season's Greetings, it just considerate. You don't have to be a jerk to be a Christian, it's possible to be nice to other people and still maintain your Christian beliefs and values. Mean is not a gift of the Spirit.
