Just thought you'd like to know he has given a clear witness of same.

"Obama Embraces 'Christian' Label after Worrisome Polls

"When President Obama lit the National Christmas Tree behind the White House last year, he spoke of a "child born far from home" and said "while this story may be a Christian one, its lesson is universal." According to Religion News Service, the president referenced that same "child born far from home" this year, but added a more personal twist: "It's a story that's dear to Michelle and me as Christians." What changed? For one, three separate polls in the past year have found that one in four Americans think the president is a Muslim, 43 percent don't know what faith he follows, and four in 10 Protestant pastors don't consider Obama a Christian. Stephen Mansfield, author of "The Faith of Barack Obama," said the polls "had to be a wake-up call to the White House," motivating the president to speak more personally and openly about his faith."

So the birth of our Savior - Jesus Christ - is a "story"?

Ah, Yes, Bowing to the polls...

It is all to easy to *say* you're a Christian...

What I'd really like to see his walk match the talk.

But, then, what he actually said isn't all that profound, was it?

I mean half the heathen in America call themselves Christian then frequent bars and porn...

So what he said is meaningless.

You're grasping at straws. Yes, it is a story. A true one, but still a story.

    archaic a : history 1 b : history 3
    2
a : an account of incidents or events
b : a statement regarding the facts pertinent to a situation in question c : anecdote; especially : an amusing one
    3

    4
    : a widely circulated rumor
    5
    : lie, falsehood
    6

Paul, do you often refer to Scriptural events as "stories".

Like the story of the Flood?

The story of the parting of the Red Sea?

    The story of the Crucifixion?

    The story of the Ressurection?

Wouldn't make for a very convincing argument for repentance and conversion would it?

I agree with Paul. The use of the word "story" is not a big deal. I'm sure if we did a little research we could find a large number of good Bible preaching pastors and teachers that also use the word story from time to time. Heck, let's look in the Bible itself (2Ch 13:22, 2Ch 24:27).

...he spoke of a "child born far from home" and said "while this story may be a Christian one, its lesson is universal."

So what is the universal lesson from the "story" to non-Christians?

That is a more fair question than being critical of the word 'story.'

Still, when did we start holding presidents to theological correctness?

Presidents claiming to be Christian is nothing new, neither is failing to manifest it by their fruits.

The Obama family does not celebrate Christmas in the typical sense... That tells me something.

Is there a Biblical mandate to celebrate Christmas in the traditional American way?

As I recall the only Remembrance we are to regularly attend to is Communion...

    And, that often...

Having communion would be a better Christmas Eve service than the bitty kids Christmas Cantata?

If it is a "universal lesson" it wouldn't be about theology - more of a moral lesson?

    Who knows?

So does anyone know what the universal lesson of the "story" is ?

    Or

"I Love to Tell the Story" and "Tell Me the Old, Old Story", two wonderful songs from the hymn books.

Nope, but I find Obama deficient in ANY form of Christianity. Where does he attend church, for instance? Where DID he attend church when he did? Why does he only attend when the cameras are on?

Two possible explanations for Obama's "story" that tells a univeral lesson...

Obama has special secret knowledge of the universal lesson to be learned by the "story" of the birth of Christ.

    OR

Obama doesn't have a clue as to the absolute and unique meaning of the birth of Christ and must rely on meaningless babble when talking about it.

    So which is it?
