Is it illegal or non-Christian...

    to try to force ourselves into other people's holidays? I personally think it would be stupid and that it is wrong when people try to take Christmas and change it because it doesn't fit THEIR religion, but since they're doing it to us, should we go ballistic and make our point by demanding representation or claiming offense at all the other holidays we don't partake of?

    Cuz I'd really enjoy demanding Christianity be equally represented in Halloween. I don't want to see a pumpkin carved unless there's a cross by it. I want people to say "Happy Holiday!" instead of "Happy Halloween" and I want them to do it in order to not offend my religion. I think they need to be more diverse and inclusive and recognize that I don't celebrate Halloween, so they should start including me in their celebration in a way I find non-offensive.

    I don't see why we should insist on our Christian holidays. I know I don't get on Jews for celebrating Hannuka or muslims for celebrating Ramadan. On the other hand if we are celebrating Christmas I don't see whats wrong with calling it Christmas. There should be no issue if we say Merry or Happy Christmas to each other.

    Just remember that Christmas Day was a pagan festival to begin with. It was adapted by the Church of Rome to attract the pagans to the church. Prior to that, Christmas was not celebrated by the church. Early emphasis was on the resurrection rather than the birth of Jesus.

    We live in a multicultural society and not a Christian country. It is the churches that have tried to force the hand of society rather than the world.

    Early public schools in Canada, sent Jewish kids out in the hallways, so the rest could recite the so-called Lord's Prayer and often read a Psalm.

    Stores are in business to make money, not celebrate any religion. Do they not have these rights?

    If all are not free, then none are free.

    Today, a clerk said Happy Holiday, I replied - what holiday are you talking about. She said any of them. I asked her what holiday are you celebrating - she happily replied "Christmas" I said, Merry Christmas.
    Great chance to witness. Lets take something negative and make something positive out of it.

    Like that young punk who went into an Army recruiters office with a knife and quickly cut off the buttons on the Sergeants jacket . Punk says what do you have to say about that? Sarge replies - Have I got a deal for you - How would you like to be in Special Forces ? Sarge made quota that month!!! :thumbsup:

    In our Bible Study Class Sunday, one member said when someone says "Happy Holidays" to him; he asked which holiday are they talking about. They usually reluctantly respond "Christmas and New Years". They he says back to them: A Merry Christmas to you too.

    He does not let them get away with just happy holidays.

    What do you all think about this?

    Do you think Christmas (as generally celebrated now) is really a Christian festival? Are people who wish one another "Happy Christmas!" being more godly than those who say, "Happy holidays"? Here in the UK, very few people say "Happy Holidays" - it would be confusing if they did, because we say "holiday" where Americans would say "vacation". Anyway, the very word "holiday" is derived from two Old English words meaning "holy" and "day".

    As for demanding not to see a pumpkin carved unless there's a cross by it at Halloween, would that make any difference? We are not told in the bible even to use the cross as a Christian symbol, let alone to use it to somehow "sanctify" an unholy evcent such as Halloween is.

    Thanks, Jim. Same to you!

    As a boy, I remember that if we were just expressing Christmas greetings, we'd say or write, "Happy Christmas!" but if we were combining it with New Year greetings, we'd say/write, "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!"

    Looking at the Christmas cards we've had so far, it seems that "Merry" and "Happy" are used almost equally, and just a few say other things, such as, "Season's Greetings!"
