Recently I received a DVD in the mail, by this title, because my wife thought that it might be good, because it has a well known actress in it, but don’t waste your money.
Because it will only break your heart, to be reminded of the foolishness of mankind, in their “quest for truth”.

This movie starts out with your average unsaved person, having reached the end of their rope, and falling on their knees in prayer to God, which seems like the start of a good story, but this person lives in New York City, and must have been turned off to Christianity, because she never even considers turning to Christ.

The rest of the move is the story of her journey to the farthest corners of the earth, looking for “truth”, which leads her into eastern “religion”, where she is told, not to expect forgiveness from God, but to seek for forgiveness from within yourself, because each of us are god...Blah, Blah, Blah.
    --------------------------------------------------
The reason for this post, is because after watching the film, I asked myself(and the Lord), how I would go about bringing a person like this to a saving knowledge of Christ.

His answer was to remind me, how I had learned, the one great advantage that Christianity has over all of the other worlds religions(lies), is that only Christianity deals with our “sin problem”.

Sin, destroys our life, but sin is “only” dealt with by the Blood of Christ. Therefore no man-made religion is able to give us a victory over it.
This is why, our approach to an unsaved person in this situation, who is looking for help, must start by pointing out their sin to them.

This is one reason, the Roman road, starts with Romans 3:23; Because a person must see their “sin problem” first, then we can introduce them to life’s only answer.

I didn't think that I would enjoy the film, but I did. I knew going in that it was about a woman who was searching for answers in all the wrong places, that's why I really didn't care to see it. But her secular reasoning for searching was one that was thought-provoking to me.

Anyway, you make a valid point.

My pastor asked us a couple of Sundays ago, "How would you answer this question? -'Why do people need Jesus in the first place?'"

I thought it was GREAT that he challenged the congregation to answer that. If we can't confindently and quickly answer that question - with knowledge, with wisdom, from the point of view of a burden for the lost, from a place of self-reflection, and with an understanding of just exactly who God is and what Jesus died for - then we might as well search for the mysteries of life along with Julia Roberts by looking deeply into the eyes of a fly-infested elephant.

The movie was about searching for life's meaning and finding fulfillment. Nothing wrong with that and nothing wrong with finding enjoyment in good and acceptable secular things. The movie failed in my mind in distinguishing fleshly fulfillment in things such as friendship, love, art, good food, meditation, and more from the ultimate spiritual fulfillment which can only be found in surrendering to God via His Son.

But then again, focusing on Jesus Christ was not it's intent.

Movies are either entertaining or they aren't. I found it mildly entertaining.

I did not find it inspiring.

I have not see this movie. I have not been interested for the same reason Scarlett mentioned she was not initially interested, although I'm sure, as she stated, it could be thought provoking and offer insights into how some of our unsaved friends think.

If you are looking for a truly inspiring movie, I would highly recommend Faith Like Potatoes. It's also a true story. Netflix has it.

A good movie we saw recently from Netflix was Dreamer. It stars Dakota Fanning and Kurt Russell. It's about a horse trainer and his daughter. Kris Kristopherson plays the grandfather.
It is an inspiring movie. I highly recommend it.
