    Are you one of the elect?

    I Colossians 1:
    15: He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation;
    16: for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities -- all things were created through him and for him.
    17: He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
    18: He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, that in everything he might be pre-eminent.
    19: For in him all the fulness of God was pleased to dwell,

    Romans 8:
    28: We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.
    29: For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the first-born among many brethren.
    30: And those whom he predestined he also called; and those whom he called he also justified; and those whom he justified he also glorified.

    John 1
    1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
    2: He was in the beginning with God;
    3: all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.
    4: In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
    5: The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

    Ephesians 1:
    3: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,
    4: even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.
    5: He destined us in love to be his sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,
    6: to the praise of his glorious grace which he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.

    II Thesalonians 2:
    13: But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.
    14: To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

    John 15
    16: You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide; so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

    I Corinthians 1:
    25: For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
    26: For consider your call, brethren; not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth;
    27: but God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong,
    28: God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are
    ,

    29: so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.

    Ephesians 2
    3: Among these we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, following the desires of body and mind, and so we were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
    4: But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us,
    5: even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
    6: and raised us up with him, and made us sit with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

    7: that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
    8: For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God --
    9: not because of works, lest any man should boast.

    James 2:
    5: Listen, my beloved brethren. Has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those who love him?

    Mark 13:
    20: And if the Lord had not shortened the days, no human being would be saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days.
    22: False Christs and false prophets will arise and show signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect.

    I Peter 1:
    1: Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappado'cia, Asia, and Bithyn'ia,
    2: chosen and destined by God the Father and sanctified by the Spirit for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.

    Jeremiah 15:
    15: Behold, I am bringing upon you a nation from afar, O house of Israel, says the LORD. It is an enduring nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, nor can you understand what they say.

    Psalm 33:
    12: Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!

    1 John 4
    6: We are of God. Whoever knows God listens to us, and he who is not of God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

    1 John 5:
    19: We know that we are of God, and the whole world is in the power of the evil one.
    20: And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, to know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

    I Corinthians 2:
    7: But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glorification.
    8: None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

    Acts 13:
    47: For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, `I have set you to be a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.'"
    48: And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of God; and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

    Psalm 135:
    4: For the LORD has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel as his own possession.

    Revelation 17:
    13: These are of one mind and give over their power and authority to the beast;
    14: they will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful."

    Daniel 7
    17: `These four great beasts are four kings who shall arise out of the earth.
    18: But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, for ever and ever.'
    21: As I looked, this horn made war with the saints, and prevailed over them
    22: until the Ancient of Days came, and judgment was given for the saints of the Most High, and the time came when the saints received the kingdom.

    Romans 11:
    3: "Lord, they have killed thy prophets, they have demolished thy altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life."
    4: But what is God's reply to him? "I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Ba'al."
    5: So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace.
    6: But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.
    7: What then? Israel failed to obtain what it sought. The elect obtained it, but the rest were hardened,
    8: as it is written, "God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that should not see and ears that should not hear, down to this very day."

    1 Peter 2:
    9: But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
    10: Once you were no people but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy but now you have received mercy.

    Isaiah 41:
    8: But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, my friend;
    9: you whom I took from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest corners, saying to you, "You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off";
    10: fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.
    11: Behold, all who are incensed against you shall be put to shame and confounded; those who strive against you shall be as nothing and shall perish.
    12: You shall seek those who contend with you, but you shall not find them; those who war against you shall be as nothing at all.
    13: For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, "Fear not, I will help you."

    Revelation 11
    17: saying, "We give thanks to thee, Lord God Almighty, who art and who wast, that thou hast taken thy great power and begun to reign.
    18: The nations raged, but thy wrath came, and the time for the dead to be judged, for rewarding thy servants, the prophets and saints, and those who fear thy name, both small and great, and for destroying the destroyers of the earth."

    All born again, justified believers in the gospel of Jesus Christ are the elect. However, not all who make that profession are the elect. Especially those who have believed in "another Jesus" and worship another God than the Triune God of the Bible. Such are idolaters (I Jn. 4:1-6; 2 Jn. 9-11; Jn. 17:3)

    I can't sin anymore because I was made sinless on June 14,2008 and born of God two days later. No one born of God will ever sin again.

    If you don't understand this, go read the scriptures I provided. If you love the Lord more than your Bible, then you will hear the truth.

    God the Father is the One who is defined in Scripture that did the electing and God the Father gave those whom he elected to the Son (see John 17:2; 6:37-38, 44-45). So if anyone is elected to salvation (2 Thes. 2:13) it was God the Father who did the electing.

    You are asking the wrong question. The right question is "How do YOU know YOU are one of God's elect?"

    I asked, "who elected you." Don't go twisting everything around because you don't want to give me an answer. I know why you don't want to answer it.

    Well, you just sinned, because LYING is a sin!

    I Jn. 1:8 If WE say that we have no sin, WE deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

    John is writing to believers (I Jn. 5:13) as a believer thus "WE" and he is using the present tense and writing under the leadership of the Spirit and yet he says those who deny they "have sin" are deceived.

    You cannot pit I John 1:8-10 against 1 Jn. 3:9. God's people have been born again, but the question is what aspect of their nature has been born again? Not their body. Jesus says, "what is born of Spirit IS SPIRIT." You still have indwelling sin in your members, your flesh, your body (Rom. 7:18) and the absolute proof of it is that your body will die and death is the consequence of sin but your spirit does not die when the body dies (Mt. 10:28 and the spirit of the saved never dies (Jn. 11:28).

    All Christians use this verse for an excuse not to read the rest of 1 John.

    I was a sinner for 54 years right up to the day that God asked me for my life on June 14, 2008. This verse you used is only meant for us children of God who were created together as the Word. We know we are sinners when God comes to work in our lives to make us sinless saints. Once he reveals himself to us and gives us faith, then we know him each time he comes to give us command to obey. I obeyed God's commands for 29 years until he made me sinless. Now my flesh is totally obedient to the Word that we were created as.

    Can't read English too well either! That verse says "we" and John was a saint, born again, child of God when he said "we." Do you know the meaing of "we"? He used the present tense not the past tense as you are suggesting. Do you know the difference between present and past tense?

    If you keep trying hard enough, maybe one of your excuses will get you free from the truth.

    You really think I should take your words over the words of the apostle John? Why? What objective evidence do you have to prove you are not a false teacher and a perverter of John's words?

    I Jn. 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

    You interpret this verse from the wrong perspective. I'm the sinless saint, not you.

    The Word, who are the "we" in "if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins..."? Who is John speaking to, as is he included?

    I have a different take on who the actual phrase "The elect" are referring to, that being true Israel who are believing jews.

    Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins.

    Isa 45:4 For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me. :thumbsup:

    Robert Shank has two good books Life in the Son and Elect in the Son. They're too Arminian, but he does offer some insight on election. I'd skip Life in the Son as it is a terrible attempt to disprove eternal security.

    >All born again, justified believers in the gospel of Jesus Christ are the elect

    Life in church would be simpler if there was a lie detector helmet. A light on it would stay green until someone lied. Then matters of "believing in" and sinning could be tested. Each preaching place could have a big section for red lighters and a couple of empty chairs for greenies.

    We are the chosen ones who God created together in the beginning. There are many biblical names to describe us like the Word, Holy Spirit, Kingdom of God, Kingdom of Heaven, Kingdom of Jesus Christ, God, Christ, Counselor, Remnant of Israel, Remnant of Jacob, Joseph and Judah, Jerusalem, Holy Ones, Elect, Voice of God, the Spoken Word, Lord, Righteous Ones, etc.
