Satly, this appears to be nothing but your prototypical KJVO brainwashing propaganda. You have to read down a ways to find it but once it starts the KJVO dogma appears to raise its ugly head with a vengeance.

Remember, when reading this, to keep the time period in the front. It was a time when liberalism was penetrating the churches, and the RSV was the key bible used in this attack on fundamentalism.

It was not a KJVO situation, but the King James Version was our key fundamental bible for worship and study.

We stuck strongly to the King James Version in the hopes of unity amongst evangelicals, then labelled fundamentalists, in our battle against modernism.

    There is a difference.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Fact is, KJVO was as wrong then as it is now. It's NEVER been right.

To clarify you are saying it's wrong to only use the kjv and not allow anyone else to use any other version right? If so I agree. Honestly it really perplexes me as to why people believe that the kjv is the only Bible to be used. I don't understand why people feel that way. There is surely nothing biblical about it. It must be a control thing because I've tried to grasp the idea and why but it continues to escape me. I mean it's their loss and I feel blessed by the many translations we have.

You weren't around in our day. I repeat what I already posted once:

    I agree Jim.
When the RSV came out, it was looked on upon as a liberal attack on the Scriptures. It was only one tool among many that the evangelicals were fighting during that era when the battle was raging against modernism. When did the RSV come out? 1952? And it was not a very good translation either.

No one in that day even considered what the KJVO people today believe. They never dreamed that every letter, punctuation mark, italicized word, etc. was inspired. They all knew better than that, and all knew that the original languages superseded the translation. There was no KJVO as we know it today.

The American Standard Version was popular in American schools but the Authorized Version (King James Version) remained the main scripture in Canadian seminaries and Bible Colleges into the late 60's.

The KJV remained a key bible in Baptist pulpits. The younger men started changing in the late 60's, but us oldtimers remained true to the KJV. We did recognize the errors in the KJV. For example, in 1961 I preached a series titled, The Seeming Contradictions in the KJV.

The RSV became the main bible in the liberal Baptist Churches because it supported their view on the "questionable virgin birth".

This was so touchy a topic that one staunch member came and suggested the messages were attacking his faith. That is how strong the KJV was in those days.

    Cheers,

    Jim
