Apparently it snowed out here, so everything is shut down. I say "apparently" because I looked outside and had to squint to see it, but out here it's probably going to be discussed in the future as "The Great Blizzard of '11." LOL

    hehehe

Now that that's out of our system...

Now we've kids and a dog on a day hubby and I usually have set aside to clean at the church and then have some alone time.

If they haven't shut it down, we'll still go clean and one of the kids will come help. After that I may excuse myself from life to go write or something. I'm half-tempted to take the 16 yr old out to a parking lot and teach her to drive on thin ice. ;)

Other than that we're gonna pretend the blizzard is real and act like we're cold and hunker down with hot drinks (I'll have to crack a window or something to make it realistic) and wait for tomorrow, when I get to spend the day listening to teenagers sing on various levels. Got my candy ready for the ones who are reluctant to sing a few solo lines...it's hilarious how sugar is still a great bribe at that age!

How's the weather your way? Do you have snow, and if so, CAN YOU SEE IT? Are you making snow angels? :saint:

Yes. In fact, one of the deadliest blizzards ever took place in Oklahoma.

Our snow days look like this:

About three hours worth of chores, then going to plow the church's parking lot, then going to pick up a couple of kids to go and check on the old folks in our church and shovel/plow their driveways and sidewalks.

Then, we come home, take a quick nap, and go sledding.

Well, we have snow on the ground even though we got an inch of rain yesterday! I'd say we're still at around 3" on the ground leftover from all of our storms. But tonight/tomorrow we should get 3-6" so we're making some plans for tomorrow. The snow should be done by around lunchtime but our 18 year old has to be at school at 9 and I'm not sure that she'll be OK to drive so hubby will be available to drive her (she has an hour commute). He'll just hang out over there at the Starbucks or something and do some work. It works out well because that is close to the location of the new church so he's getting into the "community" there.

Today I'll head to church to do my work just in case things are messy tomorrow. I usually go in on Fridays but it's fine for me to do it today instead. I'll then hit the grocery store - and hope that since it's just 3-6" after we've had 2 storms already with 12+", it won't be crazy. I seriously just need milk, orange juice and half and half. Can NOT go into a snow storm without half and half for hubby's coffee!! :D

Since I live in the South, I totally 'get' what you are saying. An inch of snow can shut the whole city of Atlanta down for a couple of days! That being said, we just got six inches of snow last week, and it shut the city down for nearly a week. We had a blast! Nothing like having a week's vacation when you don't expect it! :)

I've never made a snow angel. There is usually not enough of it and its too wet to make it worthwhile. It turns out to be a mud angel. But we love making a fire and having hot chocolate after going ofor a walk in the snow. Makes us feel like...yankees. LOL!

Syracuse would also shut down in a snowstom - of course that would mean at least 40 inches of snow within 12 hours

LOL - Yep. My only worry for the snow tomorrow is the kids driving in it because they are not that great in snow yet. But otherwise, it's pretty much life as usual although I am planning to go to church in a bit and get my work done today. I'm not worried about driving tomorrow but my daughters might need rides and I'd rather not be up at church then have to leave. Also my 8 year old was doing her reading in the den and I just went in and she's asleep. The second time she fell asleep today. That means she's sick. :(

The ironic thing is that my wife andI come from a place where there was no snow and now live in a place where there's a lot of snow and yet, we seem to be the only ones who don't run around like its the end of the world every time it snows.

The people you'd think would be used to it panic at the first snowflake, but we just hurry up to get our chores done so we can take the kids sledding.

Yeppers, according to the news! It's really cute to watch people run out with cameras in hand getting pictures. It's not fun to watch people try to drive though!

I think a nap will be included in the day. We got to the church and found the rest of the usual crew would be a few hours late, so we did extra work so they wouldn't have as much when they came in since we were already there.

I didn't grab lunch yet, so gonna see what we have and then plop on the couch with it and hopefully fall asleep.

YEAH RIGHT! (husband, doggie, kids, all enemies of the word "nap")

I'll probably end up doing laundry and trying to squeeze a few more articles in (more cash = more hot chocolate!) and try to talk someone into bathing doggie. That's always hilarious to watch!

No snow for us! Well, maybe tomorrow we might see a flake or two. LOL

Right now its just misting enough cold rain to make everything wet and nasty. Bleck. And its dark and gloomy. double bleck.

Tomorrow is class day, so I hope all of ya'lls snow stays north! (sorry, I've had enough for this winter!)

I'm typically in a snow plow clearing the campus of Southern Seminary where I manage the grounds.

Right now, I'm watching over my wife, who had knee surger yesterday, and waiting for my dauther-in-law to get here so I can leave to go plow snow. I'll be up all night tonight -- another all nighter for the cause.

We're predicted to get 3-6" today and are now well on the way to seeing that.

This turned out to be a one-day school week. No school Tuesday through tomorrow (Friday) because of weather.

I think I developed a twitch in my right eye and a spastic colon. I was looking forward to a few days of quiet healing. Sure wish the kids had family out here to send them to sometimes! Oh well. Such is life. I sure love 'em and do try to cherish these times, but an occasional break would be a beautiful thing too! They feel the same. LOL

Hubby and I said this morning "Wow! Two days with sun!!" We're supposed to get a little weather tomorrow but it's looking like just rain. Wow. No snow in 4 days!

Ways to handle the weather --

Watching my son's high school soccer regionals
Watching the high school softball team play - great sitting out in the bleachers watching the girls kick off their season
    Going to an arts festival
Having a church picnic after the service with light jazz in the background -- thanks to our musicians

The best way was my son's -- a couple of weeks ago, his small group spent the night at Stiltsville -- raised houses in the middle of the bay. Picture below.

No way!! You can rent one of those?? We were in No Name Harbor right near there when we got our sailboat in Florida. They were so cool but in too shallow water for us to get too close. :)

EW&F, find yourself a supply of Magnesium Chloride with CMA, and also some liquid Magnesium Chloride. Wet the dry product with the wet, and spread it around your drive. Ice will be gone in 30 minutes or so.

I get mine from gosalt.com, but you can find those same products locally in small amounts at home stores.

Regular rock salt is ineffective once temps are below 15 or so. The mag-chlor products are good to -25.

This, from Lowe's or Home Depot is what I am talking about:

    http://www.lowes.com/pd_92384-10611...e+melt&pl=1&currentURL=/pl__0__s?Ntt=ice+melt

Home Depot also sells this liquid, which is a 3-way blend that has some mag chloride:

    http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc...splay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

Here is an East Coast distributor for the liquid:

    http://www.meltsnow.com/products-liquid-magnesium-chloride.htm

Another really good product is Magic Melt:

Best thing about the products above is that they are much safer than plain salt. They'll actually fertilize plants and grass near walks and drives, and they won't do as much damage to cars and concrete.
