    NOTE:
THIS IS A MULTIPILE CHOICE POLL

Did you ever serve in the military?

I served in the US Army. I also voted "others" as I was in the State Guard (as opposed to the National Guard) which is NOT federal troops

I was up-in-the-air about joining the navy after high school, but talking to a recruiter and telling him about my limp and how I couldn't run faster than a trot, he told me I "probably couldn't get in." Since I wasn't sure I wanted to anyway, I dropped the idea. Then years later, when I had applied for graduation from UT-Dallas and had been in flight training, I got a card from the Naval Air Station inviting me for a flight in a Tomcat. They knew I was graduating and knew I had some flight training, but they apparently didn't know my age. I sent that card back, as if to accept, but the little info it required told them I was 29 by then, and the maximum age to train as a navy pilot is 27 (or was then). So I never heard anything else.

I was just looking at the Virgina Defense Force home page. In order to be an officer in the VADF, you must comply with the Manatoraty reading page. Look at page 14 of this PDF file page

    Interesting -....

If you are under 65, you may qualify to join the State Guard in your state - check out www.sgaus.org to see if your state has one - if not, and you live within 50 miles of an adjoining state, they may still let you join.

This is one regret I have in this life. I wanted to join the Air Force in '77. They were not recruiting at the time so I took the test for the Army. My test scores were top of the class they tested and the recruiter told me that I was the only one worth his time. That floored me and scared me at the same time. I never followed through but regret that I didn't. It is highly likely that I would have not passed the physical anway, as I had very bad feet that even then needed surgery.

Fla does not have a State Guard, but I noticed there is a Army National Guard unit in Palatka.

There could also be a nearby Reserve Unit.
Check the Blue pages in the phone book

Sometimes, if they don't have a Army Chaplain assigned, they may be authorize to contract with a civilian minister. You may want to check it out.

I never joined, but considered it after 9/11. I was single and just out of college. Probably would have signed up with the Air Force. I am proud to have family members who have served in the past, and appreciate those on this board who have served and are currently serving.:thumbs:

In Tenn, you can join the State Guard until you are age 66. Normally medical requirements are not as strict as Federal forces.

Might consider it some time down the road. Good to hear the medical requirements aren't as tough, but between working 40 to 60 hours a week, church responsibilites, and helping on the family farm it would be hard to commit myself to anything else right now. My father served in the TN National Guard for probably 15 years. He was deployed during Desert Storm with a Transportation Co. During the Vietnam era he served in Korea on the DMZ.

*SIGH* Once again in am the sole representative of the US Coast Guard.
I was given an Honorable/Medical discharge in 1987 after 5 years service.
I wish I would have appealed to stay in.
