    John Reisinger:
What exactly did other Reformed Baptists find objectionable about Albert Martin's view/practice of Eldership?

I don't know. What were Al Martin's views/practice of eldership? I followed your link, but it says nothing more about Al Martin than the words you quoted. I also tried the Trinity Baptist Church, Montville, website, but it seems Al Martin is not there any longer; perhaps he's gone to glory. (Edited to say that I haver just discovered he has retired, so he may still be a member at Trinity) Without a clear idea of Al Martin's view, I cannot answer your question.

All I know about Uncle Al is that when I sat through any of his sermons I was awake. Cant say that for most of the Pastors I have been cough privileged to sit through.
    :sleep::laugh: You Go Al!

People that keep you awake are typically the following: inspiring, uplifting, inteligent, humble, boastful, shocking, offensive, loud etc

So you see simply saying he kept you awake could mean a wide spectrum of things.

Whatever Al Martin's position on the subject, I guarantee you he can:

    1. Preach a 21-part series on it.
    2. Preach 2 hours per part.
    3. Never repeat himself.
    4. Never use filler.
    5. Never chase rabits.
    6. Say everything there is to say on the subject.
    7. So completely establish his position that his oposition will have no reply.

Edit: I should have read the link first - I owe as much to the Reisingers as I do to Al Martin for my jouney into sovereign grace. Lord, thank you for all of them, amen.

I would agree, though I have never seen him face to face. I heard many of his sermons on cassette back in the 1970s. He was always very forthright - he "called a spade a spade", as we say in the UK. I can remember on one cassette, he told some young people off for chatting to each other during the preaching. He said something like: "You young people at the back there. What do you think you are doing? This is the Word of God we're dealing with this morning!"

Pick any one and your already outdistancing most of the dross out there. If by monday I have no recollection about what the guy said (And I try hard to absorb every sermon) then thats how I judge them. I would judge myself no better.

Yes David, and if a man does stumble as he ages, I am apt to remember the 40 years of dedicated service to God prior to that stumble.....all & all, we are all human. Ultimately God will be the judge. Praise Him from all blessing flow

Most Pastors who have trained under him will promote this as an accolade & put it on their resume. I am looking to eventually move to Tampa & so I happened to type into google a reference for a Reformed Baptist. Low & behold there is a pastor with a list of his accomplishments & a notation that he was trained by Al Martin- Trinity Church in Montville NJ. When I pick up my Doctrines Of Grace book written by the eminent pastors Dr's James Montgomery Boyce & Philip Ryken (who now runs / is President of Wheaton college), I see Al Martin's name as the individual that proofed the book

As some of you may know, I am not reformed. However, thanks to the links provided by Iconoclast, I listened to the Al Martin's sermon on women's clothing/men's lust, as well as to excerpts from a couple of other sermons.

I like Al Martin's preaching style. I like preachers who apply scripture and doctrine directly to everyday Christian disciplines. I also like preachers who vary their delivery voice, rhythm, and volume. Now, I do not agree with everything I heard in the three sermons. However, when I closed my laptop, I left the room knowing I have heard some preaching.

Thank you Iconoclast for the links, I have saved them in my favorites.

    . . .

By the way, does anybody know of a good expository sermon series on the prophet Ezekiel?

    ...Bob

Bob...that was a very gracious comment about Brother Al Martin.

Have you ever heard of Sermonaudio.com....its a web-based sermon program you can get thru a variety of mediums. Check it out.

It is sponsored by the Reformed Church Denomination so the primary sermons are by their pastors. Still its very up to date & Im sure you will find sermons on every chapter & verse in the bible.

Pastor Silversides always speaks about the Lord with reverance, and always provides good spiritual food. He is a Padeo baptist in his view of the covenant, but he will give you plenty of food.

Some of the people on this board have never been exposed to true biblical preaching and the conviction that is brought about by the Spirit as the word is opened.
i have been blessed to have been able to sit under many of these persons preaching in person,in the local assemblies,or in family conferences.
There is a distinct gift that is given to the pastor who has preaching gifts...more than a ruling elder who more teaches
as you eluded to when it is finished the word sticks with you long past the closing prayer and has an effect upon your spirit.
