Thanks for the introduction to Gov. Mitch Daniels.

I liked what I heard and saw.

Mitch Daniels is sadly mistaken. He believes we should put aside the social issues to pursue economic unity. Our economic problems are moral issues. The problem with America is not merely that we have poor economic policies, but that we are spiritually bankrupt which manifests in our economic woes.

To ignore the social we may be able to get us back into economic good graces... but will also pave the way for our continued spiritual collapse.

Of course, CPAC has been looking for ways to ignore the social issues for years.

How can creating a six-generation welfare famly be considered an obstacle for this collapse ?

Hogwash, sez I. If anything, since we started supporting the lazy, shiftless, & sexually promiscuous with endless welfare, free rent, & food stamps, our culture & "spiritual" position have taken an absolute nosedive.

I understand the implications of the welfare state. However, these are spiritual problems that, even if we solve the economic, will still remain. Economics are not the cause, they are the symptom.

You cannot "solve" spiritual problems with legislation. Morality is a matter of the heart. However, many "spiritual problems" are exacerbated by economic fallacies that encourage irrational behavior.

I agree! However, I do believe legislation does create a culture that is harmful spiritually. For instance, abortion creates a culture of death and abortions harden a people even more.

"We believe it wrong ever to take a dollar from a free citizen without a very necessary public purpose . . . ."

    "Very" means???

It must include killing Iraq and Afghanistan civilians? Paying the Egyptian dictatorship a billion and a half every year for 30 years?

Can't wait to find out who Mitch Daniels has killed in any of these countries.

Also can't wait for billwald to point out some alternatives we had in Egypt (particularly in the 1980's, as well as in 2000-2006).
