Is this common in online education?

If your class coursework is presented and submitted via Blackboard, then you will have a record of the submitted assignment in the Blackboard "My Grades" link. Click on the "Faculty" link on your course homepage and review your instructor's contact information. Many professors or course managers provide office or cell phone numbers to reach them. Try giving your instructor a call.
I am a student at Liberty and have taken 18 courses without experiencing this type of difficulty. Be advised that Liberty uses Blackboard, as well.

 

Liberty is awesome in this regard. I am currently finishing up my M.Div. through Liberty, and I have never had to wait over a week past the due date for a grade, even a long research paper. As soon as you submit the assignment via blackboard, you get a receipt. Tests and such pretty much appear on your grade sheet immediately.

Compare this to a class I am taking at one of the "Big Six." I have assignments right now, that are not even large assignments, that have not yet been graded 4 weeks after they were due: not that I care to much. I can look and see the "needs grading" mark...

 

If you did the assignment on time, and submitted it on time, then the professor will not doc your grade. Most profs are understanding and if it is beyond reasonable doubt that you did indeed transmit the paper on time, then just be patient, you will get your grade or hear from the prof to resubmit.

 

I would surely be giving the professor a call.

My experience has been that not all professors are completely computer literate. They may be great in the classroom, really know their stuff, and be the most well-read men on earth, but have no real meaningful experience with using computers and the new electronic grading and submission software. I see this fairly regularly. They use Garrett Fellows for some of this work, who may have simply missed the file.

 

==It happens. How common it is depends on the college or university. I teach History and Humanities at a local community college that has a large distance learning department. We are required to have assignments graded within a week or so of those assignments being submitted. We are also required to respond to emails within 48-hours. Being that I usually teach three to four online classes per semester this can be a challenge. However I make time to keep up and I usually do much better than the requirements (even with a total of 8 classes under my belt this semester).

==I finished my MA/Religion through Liberty University's online program. I don't recall ever having this problem with them. However I know people at other universities that have the problem. Again, it really depends on the school and its policies.

 

Let me echo what others have said. I will graduate from Liberty with my Bachelors in May 3 years I have never had an assignement lost or more than a week genrally for a grade. I have went once or twice for 2 weeks but there were personal circumstances with the professor and his family that extended the wait. But I have never had a lost assignement. You will enjoy Liberty.
