Is a government takeover possible?

Yes, Rhett, it's possible with the present administration in Washington. Since the Reagan years, we've had some respite from government control that had steadily encroached upon education with the advent of federal grants. Now, the trend is reversed and the current is flowing in the opposite direction. We only have to wait and see how far it will take us.

 

He's overstating the case imho.

The reach of the Federal government has always exceeded its grasp in matters of higher education. To a point the government does lots of saber rattling but produces little actual results.

Diploma mills and the advent of for-profit college systems are causes of concern by all people. The for-profit model is just terrible in what it means for our overall university system in the United States. If it were to transition into a viable professional-technical system than maybe it would be more successful. Right it leverages undue influence in minority and under-class sectors of the economy, enabling them to rack up huge debts with no possible way of recapturing the value of their degrees.

I think this fella is (often) a bit extreme.

 

I don't think he is being extreme at all. The government (federal government in particular) has no business whatsoever meddling with the affairs of education at all, much less higher education. They need, quite frankly, to shut up and stay out.

As far as "For profit" institutions, that is called capitalism, my friend. People have a right to start whatever kind of business they wish, and the government, if they are going to offer loans, aid, etc., must offer it with no discrimination.

What is destroying the education system in the U.S., is liberal professors pushing agendas, the tenure system, and government interference. Remove these, and we would have an excellent education system.

 

Well, some of you may think he is extreme, but I think he's spot on! The government is most efficient in taking over areas that are supposed to be in the private sector; and education is one of the biggies.

Just look at the gov't involvement in our lives back in, say, 1950, and the massive intrusion that has been accomplished since then.

If any of you are not old enough to remember 1950, ask your parents/g-parents and you will be stunned at what we have allowed the gov't to do to us as we sat back unaware until the hooks were set.

Bauder is correct - Christians had better be planning now how to handle this future crisis, cause, barring the rapture, it will become a reality that the seminaries will face.
