    - Legal Monopoly: Government collective bargaining gives unions a monopoly on the government’s workforce. The government must employ workers on the terms the union negotiates. It may not hire competing workers.

    - Private vs. Public-Sector: Unions operate differently in government than in the private sector. Private-sector unions bargain over limited profits. Competition from other businesses moderates wage demands. Governments earn no profits and have no competition. Government unions negotiate for more tax dollars.

    - Risking Public Services: When government unions strike, they can deprive citizens of essential services—such as education for children—until demands are met.

Perhaps the most insidious aspect of public sector unions is that they have a hand in determining who they will be negotiating with. With the money from forced collection of dues they spend huge sums trying to elect candidates who are sympathetic to unions. By this, of course, I mean liberal Democrats. When they are successful, they are then negotiating wages and benefits with people who not only are on their side, but who owe them their offices. This is in stark contrast to the private sector, where the two sides each have their own interests they are trying to protect. When union candidates are elected, BOTH sides in the negotiations are trying to protect and enhance the union side. The 'other side' in this equation is the taxpayers, who effectively have no representation in the negotiations, but have to pay ALL the bills for the resulting insanely generous contract with ever increasing taxes. This is how we've gotten to the point where states and localities are out of money.
Here in Wisconsin there is something extremely corrupt going on in some communities that those of you in the rest of the world may not have heard about. Some local school boards are quickly negotiating and passing new contracts for their teachers which compensate them for the projected increased payments for benefits that will start when the new law is eventually enacted. This despite the fact that Governor Walker has said over and over that state aid to schools and localities is about to be cut dramatically. These school boards are so totally in the pocket of the teacher's union that they don't even care that they are setting themselves and their communities up for literal economic disaster. The only important thing is to satisfy their union benefactors. That's why the senate Dems have fled the state. They don't care about the people who voted for them, only about the unions who contribute to them. It's just an incredible level of corruption all around, and it's part of why even FDR was against unions for public employees.

When teachers threaten a strike parents go bjerk because they might lose their "free" day care, not because their children will miss some educating.

I guess when you make stuff up, it makes it easier for you to avoid the truths surrounding the issues, huh?

All those "dreadfully sick" "educators" in Wisconsin--doesn't matter that other folks (those who actually try and keep their word) had to take off work--many without pay--and take care of what said "educators" had agreed to take care of.

Dress up that pig any way you want, bill. It's still gonna oink.

Sure, the Wisconsin Democrats are currently hiding out of state to delay a vote to give unions time to organize protests. The Democrats in Wisconsin are doing the bidding of the unions who own them.

OK, who on this list is NOT a self-serving leach? How have you overcome your sin nature? The rest of us need to know.

So you admit public sector unions are self-serving leeches! You have taken a huge step toward the light of conservatism! Let me be the first to welcome you!

Seriously though, I fail to get the connection between public sector unions and the individual with a sin nature. ...That is unless you do, in fact, recognize the "sin" the p.s. unions have engaged in.

The connection is unnecessary name calling.

Having been in the military, the worst infraction known (at least when I was in) was to run from the battlefield in the heat of the conflict.

I don't steal from my employer, if that's what you need to know.

    Many Wisconsin "educators" did.
