    http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/pare...-mother-leaving-your-children-behind-2460982/

Ten years ago, when her sons were 5 and 3, Rizzuto received a fellowship to spend six months in Japan, researching a book about the survivors of Hiroshima. Four months in, when her children came to visit, she had an epiphany: She didn't want to be a full-time mother anymore. When she returned to New York, she ended her 20-year marriage and chose not to be her kids' custodial parent.

    Whoa!

I could list more than a few things I didn't want to do but I kept doing out of obligation and God changed my heart. None of them were as serious as mothering.

How do you leave those you love? What is that kind of love?

I'm sorry but she realized after not seeing her children for 4 months that she didn't want to be a full time mom? Guess what - she wasn't.

Satan has very much enjoyed speaking into her ear and having her listen.

I pray for those children who have been abandoned by their mother.

Oh those poor children! I don't understand why people bother to have children if they don't want them. This woman should be horse-whipped and sterilized!

I hope her children find Christ. They will probably have serious abandonment issues to deal with in their lives.

Most definitely. They will have to deal with all of the factors relating to abandonment and divorce that parents strive to prevent their children from facing.

They will have to deal with the fact that:

    1) Beyond a doubt they were the reason for the divorce.

    2) Their mother has admitted that she did not want them.

Talk about psychological damage. She should not be glorified for this behavior. I kept thinking that a man would be tarred and feathered for even attempting to justify this behavior. A man who does this is often called a "dead beat."

Just imagine the looks Hannah got from members of the Hebrew Church Ladies League after returning home without Samuel.

    Bad Hannah!
    Bad, bad Hannah!

I'm sure she did get some looks and may well have been ostracized by some, but her leaving Samuel with Eli was sacrificial on her part, NOT because she had something better to do or just didn't want to mother.

I watched the interview. The woman has done something very selfish. It was all about her, her needs, what she was missing, etc., etc., etc.

I'm sure she's a member of the local Narcissist Anonymous club. When members speak before the group they get up and say, "Hi, my name is Bob and I'm a narcissist and I don't give a *@% who you are." And, this woman really doesn't give a blank about anybody but herself.

So, you approve of her actions?

Are you saying her children will be ordained as prophets of God?

What is your real message? Or is there one? Or are you just attempting to be cute?

    Enlighten us.

Little Samuel did get to see mama once a year:

"Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice."

Sweet scene. Must have been heartbreaking to leave him time and time again.

That's weird. Just weird. Think about those things before you have children, and if you do, take your responsibility seriously. She basically said to them that they aren't important enough in her life to be around full time.

On the other hand, if she is a bad parent being with them full time and refused to take that responsibility, she did right to quit being around them full time.

I just can't wrap my mind around giving birth to an amazing bit of creation, watching that person grow and thrive, then walking away in the midst of their transformation into adulthood with no other reason than you just don't want to be around for it full time. Was there something wrong with the kids that she couldn't handle? Is she mentally ill? There's gotta be more.

Or not. It happens all the time for no good reason.

Insufficient information with which to read someone's mind.

I have a friend who used to be an active pastor, and is now a denom leader.

His biggest regret and he voices it often?

He thought his work was so important to God that it had to be done at any cost. That meant insane hours for him, and of course mama had to work insane hours to support them, or help support them.

His kids are grown, moved far away, and if he wants to see the grands he has to do the travelling. His kids left Jesus far behind, he says, but thankfully are slowly getting more amenable to Him again.

That good (and he was good!) Baptist preacher did the same thing as this mom we vilify: child abandonment, at least emotionally.

    Sobering warning to us all.

Generally it been the dad who abandones his family responsibilities. I've seen it happen many times. But it seems to happen less often with mothers.

The vote is 100% for self-centered mom.

I must say I am not surprised.
