The following is a response to Van’s thread, that was closed, as I was typing my first response.

    Hello Van and Welcome.

Nice thread and as I read the first two responses, something came to mind.
Those who follow Calvin, are forced to “defend Calvinism”.

I can only remember defending the Gospel and God’s Word, but I could never bring myself to defend, any “man’s” idea.
    --------------------------------------------------
Now I know, that some Calvinists will say that they are not following Calvin, but simply agreeing with him and the way he looks at the Bible.

I am still trying to figure out how/why, truly born again Christians, can see the same subject(salvation), so differently.

It’s almost as if a Calvinists, applies an artificial profoundness to their study of God’s Word.

I, like most Christians, see the value in a “deep study” of the Bible, but for me a deep study means, dissecting and studying every word of a passage and it’s relation to the rest of the Bible.(Rightly dividing the Word of truth)

But for a Calvinist, deep study means to delve deep into the mind of God, to try and understand things that can not be nailed down in Scripture.
For instance, “the order of salvation”......
Foreknowledge, Predestination, Election, Regeneration, Evangelism, Faith, Conversion, Perseverance, Repentance, Justification, Sanctification, Glorification.

The only parts of this list, that a Christian needs to understand are, Faith, Conversion, Justification, Sanctification, Glorification.
To go any “deeper” than this, is counterproductive, because we start second guessing God.

Thank you for your thought provoking thread.

And only Calvinists do this? Of course they aren't. It is nearly impossible to study anything, let alone something as life-changing as the Bible, and approach it with a completely open mind. What I've learned before gets in the way. My life experiences get in the way. We approach any learning with a set of presuppositions regardless of where they came from or how we got them. Shedding them can be done, of course, with God's help. But it's been my experience when we shed one set, we pick up another.

Stilllearning is not wrong, although this does not apply to only Calvinists, we are all guilty of this to a degree. Men by nature abhor faith and try to substitute knowledge in it's place. The atheist's greatest argument is that he has never seen God.

Many men cannot believe that which they cannot explain through knowledge. For example, I once read that a Bible scholar said the Red Sea which Moses crossed should have properly been interpreted the Reed Sea and was only ankle deep. A pastor hearing this exclaimed, "Praise God! He drowned Pharaoh and all his army in ankle deep water!".

We cannot explain everything in scripture, nor do we need to. We must learn to accept God's word by faith.

haven't you been told before not to start threads from ones that have been closed?

Exactly. Nobody is holding up Calvin and saying his works are infallible. It's called reading the Bible and conclusions are very similar.
Because we interpret the Bible differently.
Nothing here was even close to true, nor profitable. Stop starting threads like this. It doesn't help anything.

"thank you for your thought provoking thread" THAT WAS CLOSED BY THE ADMINS FOR A REASON!

    No! Never! Not once!

Try not to be so easily offended.........
    Psalms 119:165
“Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.”

    --------------------------------------------------
What was the reason? It was never given.

    Not true

    This thread
    http://www.baptistboard.com/showthread.php?t=70178

Was a thread that was closed. You opened another on with a response and were told not to do it. It's one thing when we get to the "10 page limit" and it's another to have it closed on page 1.
I'm not offended. Just saying this isn't profitable. Calvinists are Christians remember.

What was the reason? It was never given.[/QUOTE]

Wasn't this the thread that was closed after only 2 posts entitled "False teachings" Reasons don't have to be given .

And I answered that question. That was a fine question to ask. The rest wasn't. Want to respond to my answer on that portion?

    Amen brother.

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Yes. That is correct. There is only one correct interpretation of a text.
