First Baptist, Dallas to have special speaker

Anytime politics is fused with the pulpit the Church loses.

Nobody can say Huckabee isn't solely a politician in any public appearance at this point.

I weep for the state of our churches.

 

It's an oppourtunity for him to glorify the Lord and not talk about politics.

The article says he is breaking from political talk to speak about his personal relationship with Jesus.

 

Quite the accusation based on little to no facts. Certainly not very kind but very extreme.

 

I would love to hear him preach.

I'm glad there will be no politics involved. That has no place in the church IMO.

 

Especially considering that before entering politics, Huckabee was a pastor. He has every right to enter the pulpit, unlike the true politicians who do so most often when they are a part of the Democrat Party.

 

I've heard him preach a few times - he's good!

 

He's been to seminary (not sure he graduated) and been a pastor before. I'm fine with it as long as he sticks to exposition and theology and it doesn't become political. I kinda like the guy.

Although considering the reputation of this particular congregation, one can't help but think politics is playing a part in the invitation, at least. They wouldn't invite a known democrat who has the same background as Huckabee.

 

Probably true. After all, he is considering a run for the presidency.

But do a google and look up the terms "candidate + church" and see what comes up. I did that for a debate during the last election, and the results were astounding. The Democrat candidates were speaking in churches all over the place -- on SUNDAY morning -- and they were talking POLITICS. Of course, they were in liberal churches that probably did not preach the gospel anyway, but they were (all of them, even John Kerry in the prior election) in the pulpits of churches speaking. I could barely find an example of a Republican doing likewise, except Huckabee, and as has been said here already, he IS a preacher. He has a right! Entering politics does not force him to stop preaching the gospel, nor should it!

 

I guess it's been forgotten/forgiven that back when Huckabee was a Southern Baptist pastor, he was the moderates' choice for the presidency of the Arkansas Baptist convention, soundly defeating the "Conservative Resurgence" anointed candidate Dr. Ronnie Floyd.
