No, that option has been talked about ever since the senate Dems fled to Illinois. The reason it happened now is that at first a few of the Republican majority wanted to give the Dems a chance to come back and do their jobs. But enough time had passed now, and the Dems, especially Miller, the minority leader, had behaved so badly that all the Repubs except one were sufficiently frustrated that they didn't care anymore. The irony is that the compromises that Gov Walker had been discussing with some of the Dems, and that Miller got into the middle of and disrupted, are now gone. What has been passed is the original bill, minus the fiscal components. So the Dem leaders and the unions, by playing hardball and ultimately refusing to compromise, have ended up getting no compromises at all. As both a conservative and a lifelong cheesehead, I'm loving it!

Maybe, maybe not ... time will tell. There are always unintended consequences to any action. We will have to see what really comes out of this.

Also, as with management in companies and with politicians, they never realize the employees have ways of getting even. Will be interesting to watch.

One of the good things about this is that the public unions will no longer be able to negotiate the ridiculous workplace rules that among other things protect bad workers. If some of the public employees want to try to screw over the Republicans by not doing their jobs efficiently, they can be fired. And there is no shortage of available workers in Wisconsin these days who would be willing to step in and take over what will still be excellent wages and benefits even after this is implemented.

Easy to say when you aren't the one who's job is on the line. Maybe we should get rid of some dead weight in the military, surely there is plenty to be found.

Yes, I know. I just thought the span of time between comment and event was interesting. Though he may not have given the Reps the idea, it may not look good to his democratic constituents. Sometimes appearances are everything.

I understand state workers will still generally have it better than federal employees.
