I have noticed recently a number of threads, or at least, sections of threads, which seem to boil down to slanging matches like those heard in school playgrounds. They could perhaps be paraphrased:
    "You said XXXXXXX."

    "Oh no I didn't!"

    "Oh yes you did!"

    "You're a liar!"

"How dare you call me a liar!"

"If you're going to say things like that, I won't be your friend any more!"
and so on, and so on.

Shouldn't we (I include myself) be making every effort to present a more loving (I don't mean soppy or sloppy) impression of what it means to be a Christian, remembering that our words (apart from those in private forums) are on show to anyone, whether or not they are are members of the BB, indeed, whether or not they are Christians?

Of course we will have different views on a number of theological matters - eschatology, soteriology, origins, and bible translations are just a few that come to mind. There wouldn't be much point in having a board like this if we all had exactly the same views on everything. But surely it is possible to disagree with someone without becoming disagreeable.

Indeed, it helps to remember that we should be having a debate not an argument.

The one who makes the first ad hominem has probably lost the debate.
When one runs out of substance attack the person.
Has that ever convinced anyone of anything other than revealing the character of the attacker?

Yes, it should be a hard and fast rule that regardless of how much we disagree with another that we be polite.

I no longer come here expecting any kind of fellowship or friendship. There used to be several posters here I enjoyed talking to but now I just try to keep it as businesslike as possible.

I pretty much confine my posting to WretchedRadio.com now, where people aren't jerks.

Salty and Curtis have been pretty decent to me. Everybody else, I'd probably just let drown.

David I agree with you and the easiest way is not to twist what another says which is nothing but a lie.
