Church finds original KJV

    Church finds original KJV hidden in plain view.

    In fact, the Bible at St. Laurence Church in Hilmarton, England, was sitting right under a hand-lettered sign saying it was an original.

    For anyone interested, the village of Hilmarton is in Wiltshire, and is about 85 miles west of London.

    These original 1611 KJV were distrubuted to every Church of England to be chained to the lecturns, also in libraries around the UK.

    That copy is in immaculate condition as well and quite readable.

    No! No!! It was a printing error!! God is all powerful but I guess can't stop a printing error. But that's OK. Printing errors are allowed. The KJV still doesn't have errors. :tongue3:

    Hahahahaha....funny isn't it. Yeah it's like this KJVO folks have never actually read the text. :laugh::laugh:

    Of course I have had someone try to tell me the KJV is correct to say Judas walked into the Garden first....:BangHead:

    Given the condition of the book and its rarity, I would be selling that puppy for 100-200k. I could live with a replica. lol

    Yes, the practice of chaining a bible to the lectern goes back to Henry VIII's time. See http://www.wicketgate.co.uk/issue51/e51_5.html for an article from "The Wicket Gate", a magazine put out by Inverness Reformed Baptist Church, Scotland. Here are its main points:

    The Chained Bible

    It is more than 400 years since King Henry V111 declared that a large copy of the English Bible should be set up in every parish Church in England, so that the poor as well as the rich might hear the Word of God. To guard against theft the Bibles were chained … …
    For some the Bible is still chained.

    1. For those who will not read it.
    2. For those who cannot read it.
    3. For those who do not possess it

    What a metaphor. The Bible, chained.

    Also, it used to be a practice in some churches to have a Bible under your pew, in a locked box. You'd take the key out at the beginning of a service, unlock the box and remove hymnal and Bible. You'd replace them at the end and lock them away.

    In the South, we do the same thing. They just throw their Bibles in the backseat of their cars :)
