"And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

How many of you folks believe this passage of scripture?

I certainly believe the passage, but it does not stand alone as you have posted it. The previous verse says; If ye have faith, and doubt not. So yes I believe the passage as it is intended. Sadly I have offered up only a couple of prayers with those qualifications, but when I did they were answered as I prayed them.

First time I have seen this thread.

I strongly believe this passage! Examples:

    1. My great-niece Racheal was born 13 years ago. Too much for the whole story, but she was diagnosed as going to be born dead -- now she is in middle school! (Please! No "dead in the head teenager" jokes! LOL!!!)

    2. Sisters Mariah and Jazmine became believers and were baptised last Sunday.

    3. Sammie became a believer last week.

    4. Brother and sister Gideyon and Gillyan became believers this week.

Each and every one of these examples (and many more over my 38.5 years as a believer) are the result of fervent prayer, prayed by many people.

    God is VERRYY good!

I believe the verse in its context.

I don't know everything about this passage, but I know this. It isn't giving a blank check to the modern Christian. I'm not even so sure Jesus is speaking to the modern Christians here.

This passage was about supernatural power from God to do the humanly impossible. He told them that they would be able to do even MORE than He did. And the disciples did eventually perform many supernatural miracles including raising the dead.

If it is for the modern Christian, I don't believe it's about prayer requests in general. Jesus was trying to teach them something about the kingdom that they were not, at the time, understanding.

I'm sure that there is no one who prayed more in faith and without doubt than Jesus, Himself. Yet, His own request to the Father for the cup to pass from Him was denied.

Scarlett O., from the Scriptures you provided I think it's safe to say that what happened to this fig tree was referring to the Nation of Israel. Some want to assume that Jesus threw a "temper tantrum" here because he couldn't find anything to eat, but not so.

As I understand, when a fig tree matures each season it's leaves fan out as if in boasting or calling attention to itself, even appearing to glitter somewhat as a breeze moves the leaves causing the sunlight to reflect.

So it was with those religious leaders at that time (and still today) who were calling public attention to just how religious they were all the while denying Jesus as the Messiah.

A lot of glitter and boasting but no fruit. The Jews were causing themselves to be cursed for rejecting their Christ and the religious leaders of the law were drying up.

have to take FULL extent of Biblical teaching concerning prayer...
Find out that IF what we are asking for :
    Glorifies God/Honors Jesus
is In Will of God for us
is not out out of selfish motives, right motives
We WILL have what we ask of God

IS NOT though a formula to ask "in jesus name" as if God was our personal Genie!

Sure I believe it. But I don't believe that's all there is to it. We're still to pray with correct motives (James 4:3) and according to God's will, not ours (Luke 22:42). Remember, the purpose of prayer is to conform our will to God's, not to convince God to do our will.

Many years ago, when I was a false convert, I got caught up in the WoF cult for a while.

They used to pray for all sorts of wacky things, convinced that God was obligated to answer them because of their faith, and then after they prayed, they'd look for the most trivial, unrelated things and then make up some convoluted explanation of how they must be God's answer to their prayers.

In this same church, I was rebuked because we were praying for a fellow victim...er, member and I prayed something to the effect of "...and if it's your will that he be healed, then we ask that You be glorified in His healing and if it's your will that he not be healed, then we ask that You would bring him to a saving knowledge of Your Son and be made strong and glorified in his illness". I was a false convert, but I knew the lingo pretty well.

I was rebuked for that because they believed that by suggesting that it may not be God's will that their prayers be answered their way would make the man sicker.

Coincidentally, I was recounting this story to a man a couple of weeks ago who stopped me mid-story and said, "You know, when you say, 'if it is Your will', those are 'doubting words' and God won't answer your prayer".

How can God not answer a prayer that His will be done? If nothing else, we know the prayer is answered by the fact that God's will is always done. Somebody called in to Todd Friel's show the other day and said, "How do I know whether or not this event that happened was God's will". Well, everything that happens is God's will. It might be His sovereign will (those things that He commands or causes to happen) or it may be His permissive will (those things He allows to happen), but not one grain of sand blows across the beach unless God moves it.

I think what they didn't realize is that when you view God and view prayer like that, it's a very thin line between viewing God as God and viewing Him as your own personal cosmic genie, and viewing prayer as a way to conform your will to His and fellowship with Him and viewing it as a wish a child might make to Santa Claus.

Even if I'm wrong and we really are to expect God to grant our wishes, regardless of His will, I'd still rather err on the side of God's will and my prayers being answered for His glory, not my desires.

The biggest obstacle we have with our prayer life is "us". Me included. Here's a check list I ran across that can be quite helpful in evaluating why perhaps, our prayers are not answered as per the Scripture so here's a "checklist" to evaluate yourself.

1, Is there unconfessed sin in your life?
    See and ponder over Psalms 66:18 - Isaiah 59:1,2 - Proverbs 28:13 - Isaiah 1:18 - 1st John 1:7-2:2

2, Does my heart condemn me over anything?
    See 1st John 3:21 - Roman 14/23

3, Are my priorities in order?
    See Luke 10:27

4, Do I have any idols in my heart?
    See Ezekial 12:3

5, Have I forgiven all who have offended me?
    See Matthew 6:12,15 - Luke 17:3,4 - Matthew 18:21, 22

6, Do I know of any one who has anything against me?
    Matthew 5:22,24

7, Am I truly in fellowship with my fellow believers?
    Matthew 18:15-17

8, Am I having problems in the home?
    1st Peter 3:7

9, Am I indifferent to the word of God?
    Proverbs 28:9

    10, Am I giving as I should?
    Malachi 3:8,9

11, How am I treating the poor?
    Proverbs 21:13

12, Am I anchored in the Word of God?
    Joshua 1:8 - Psalms 1:1-3

13 Am I laying hold of the promises of God?
    Jeremiah 33:3 - Psalms 145:18,19 - Jeremiah 29:13

Did you come up short? I did.

If you are coming up short I will pray for you.

No thank you. My relationship with the Lord is between me and Him and He's quite capable of handling the situation.

This does come to mind however. "We have all sinned and come short of the Glory of God".

There are no exceptions. Not even you.

I know, that's tough love but someone has to tell you.
