A Good Article on The Three Days/Three Nights Debate

Yes, Glazer, He did and that is one good reason to educate one's self on the customs and manors of reckoning in First Century Jerusalem and Judah. The folks quoted in the article are studied in these fields and they are, from my study, correct.

Now, let's do as our Savior commanded and put the matter aside for Jesus said to give them liberty and in reading the scriptures through for the past two decades and a little, i have been led of the Spirit to understand that He means for us to exercise this "liberty" on none salvation matters... as is this issue.

 

Sure, but you are assuming that people in ancient Palestine shared the same conceptions of time and obsession with precision that we do in the modern industrialized world. Simply put, they didn't.

Regarding precision, in 1 Corinthians 15:5, Paul refers to Jesus apprearing first to Peter and then the Twelve [presumably, Apostles]. However, at this time, Judas Iscariot was already dead and Matthias had not been elected leaving only 11.

Now I'm sure Paul knew that there were only 11 at the time, but he probably didn't want to break the flow of his argument by distracting his readers with the question of how many apostles there were at the point of Christ's resurrection. However, as a modern reader with an obsession for precision, it did distract me when reading this yesterday.

Was Paul inaccurate? Most likely.

Is it an error? I doubt it.

Does this somehow damage an individual's faith if they admit that Paul was not being precise? Only if they have built their faith like a house of cards, demanding that every element of their faith fits neatly, with utmost precision, or it all collapses into agnosticism. Of course, that has little to do with biblical faith, which is knowing God personally, not simply building a theological idol.

 

I still tend to believe that Jesus would not have been anything but crystal clear about the timing of His Resurrection. Matthew 12:38-40.

38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.” 39 But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

If He was unclear about that then I guess you would say He wasn't clear about the six days of the creation either?

You appear to be assuming what is unclear to you or even our age would be equally so to the recipients of the word them. This is a mistake if that is the case.

Genesis 1:5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

 

Where does that say its 24 hours? How were the 24 hours created prior to the sun?

 

The Bible says morning and the evening in the same way after the creation of the sun in:

Genesis 1:11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 So the evening and the morning were the third day.

 

I agree it was a day, I disagree it must be 24 hours as they were on the lunar calendar. If I say I ate out yesterday it means that at some point yesterday I ate out, not that I'm counting backwards exactly 24 hours to state when I ate out. Did you read the OP article?
