Stephanie Miller is a very liberal talk show host.

I normally do not agree with her, however something was said on her show the other day, that I just might be able to agree.

It was stated that Newt knows he will not be able to win the nomination, let alone the election. So why is he running? Could it be, that by getting back into the limelight - he can raise his speaking fees?

You know, you can ask this of about all the major RNC candidates right now. How many of them do not currently hold office?

I don't know Mr Gingrich, but I have been deeply repulsed by his attempts to change his narrative in attempts to be more "evangelical."

Right now if the RNC played its cards right it would be walking into a Presidency and Congressional majority in both houses. What we are going to get to see over the next 18 months is how they can screw their opportunity up. Gingrich is one of the first steps towards oblivion.

I agree. Even if Obama does have decent approval ratings I don't think his voters are motivated, like those of us who voted last November to turn the tide. If the GOP can just get a decent candidate and not do something stupid they shouldn't have a problem taking the White House.

    No argument there!

Who do you think would make a good President?

So his eyes won't end up in a caldron? [Shakespeare fans will get that one.]

The nuisance value of a Gingrich candidacy is worth the show.

Liberals are afraid of him . Have been since 1994. Just like they're afraid of Palin.

Watch for a plethora of attacks from the leftist media. Much much more than his candidacy is worth.

I believe any of the possible candidates for the GOP would do better than Obama, however, I'm not sure which one I think would be the best President yet.

There are really two different questions here. Who has the best chance of beating Obama, and who would actually be the best President? Hopefully, that would be one in the same but unfortunately that is rarely the case.

I have been impressed with Herman Cain in the few times I've heard him speak and from what I've read about him. I think he could have a real shot.

Now that the thread topic has been changed from Newt to the presidential election, itself, saw an interesting analysis which graphed the winner's margin against the unemployment rate. It was almost straight line. The incumbent always wins when the jobs are increasing.

What makes Newt an interesting candidate is he would be only the second earned PhD to hold the office if he wins.

Quick trivia: who was the first (and as of right now, only)?

President Bartlett (Martin Sheen of The West Wing) doesn't count, though I do have every episode on DVD

President Obama has intellect as well as charisma.

That combination will be hard to beat.

Then there is the up and coming 2012 October (or sooner) surprise to add to the OBL demise for an Obama landslide.

I believe the only PhD among the presidents would be Woodrow Wilson.

Obama is a narcissistic idealogue and an economic illiterate.

That's a tough combination to beat if your goal is to destroy the country.

    He can be beat.

He may not be able to be beaten. The question is: will his base of '08 come out in droves to vote for him again - for the two basic reasons they did last election cycle?

Also the Republicans need a candidate who is somewhat moderate - an extremest will just bring back the nightmares of 1964.

and of course, the misery index could have an effect as well as any subsentatal Oct surprise.

Otherwise we need to root for the NFC in the 2012 Super Bowl

Why would that stop the American people from voting him back in?

Good point. His supporters would blindly follow him over a cliff. They showed poor judgement and a decided lack of good sense the first time.

Enough of them to unelect him may not have come to their senses....or didn't have any in the first place to come back to.

Still , a solid conservative can beat him. I just don't see any right now that are solid and in the running.

Agreed, but as you point out, no one on the conservative (so-called) horizon seems to have a zero-defect résumé without which Obama will ultimately be a two-term president.

Are you talking about the speculation that he might name Hillary as his new running mate?

Could be, but it will probably be even more dramatic.
