You were going to say :"Thanks Mexdeaf. I appreciate that article by Douglas Chinn and Robert Newman. It was edifying and informative. It wasn't tearing down the KJV,it was,in a very polite and proper manner delving into some major reasons some Fundamentalists hold to KJVOism. Then it calmly considered the weaknesses of such a position. I stand in your debt."

That's EXACTLY what I thought he was going to say... not!

Hopefully certain folks will read it and it will impart some much-needed wisdom to the discussions here.

Thank you, oh great Rippon! When did you become a mind reader? Don't give up your "day job" because that is nothing like what I was going to say. I was going to say, I'm very tired of arguing Bible versions and so I didn't even read the link.

You guys are like sand paper on a sunburn! This is why I'm taking a hiatus from Bible version arguing.

Life is still going on so I'm reading it paragraph by paragraph and need to read a chapter of a book before morning so I'll probably finish this tomorrow but it's very interesting reading, well researched and well put together. Thank you for the link Mex!

    I am so surprised.

Nothing like ignoring solid evidence which disputes your take.

I'll give B4L the benefit of the doubt here.

But- it is quite ironic that when a cogent, concise, and Christian response to the KJVO position is posted, no KJVO proponents will reply. Perhaps the thread title is too vague.

Well written and kindly to those in the "only" belief system.

The conjecture as to "why" a minority of my ifb brthren are caught up in this belief system was the only "weak" part - not really dealing with root causes and motivation for this system. I would have been muich more honest.

There are many excellent articles regarding the TR-KJB, written from many different perspectives.

Remember the KJB is Scripture for many families in the world. The KJB may not be your Scripture, but for many it is their Scripture. And for this reason, among others, the KJB should be respected.

Tearing down what is sacred to others may well contribute to anarchy. Our world needs unity, not anarchy.

    Please think about it.

    ...Bob

What is being torn down is the idea that the King James translation is the only valid Bible for us today. It has nothing to do with the King James translation being good.

As for that picture, they very easily could be sitting around an NIV as well. I know my family has done that. Of course we don't have perfectly coiffed blonde hair with "just so" clothing. We tend to look a little more "real". LOL

    To that I reply:

Most of the families of the world DO NOT read English and have never seen a KJV, let alone know what it is. In 95% of the world the KJV is a non-issue.

Most peoples of the world have a Bible in their own language, be it TR based or not, yet they are told that they don't have a BIble because it isn't the same as the KJV (seen it and heard it for myself). This tears down what is sacred to others.

What our world needs is Christ, not a 'one world Bible', which is ironically what some KJVO'ers desire.

A fraction of a fraction. But I still respect the KJV.

That is laughable Bob.What kind of anarchy do you envision? LOL!The KJV is a favaored translation of a minority of Bible readers throughout the world. The original is sacred, not the particular wording of the KJV text.
