The Palestinian Christians I know find it both bizarre and heartbreaking that so many other Christians seem to side with their oppressors rather than with them.

The "issue" of the OP is that "the American people are well aware of the foot-loose and fancy-free playing with the truth by the right wing."

American attitudes towards the Palestinians are at least partially influenced by their reaction to 9/11.

I worked with Palestinian and Lebanese Christians years ago. They bad-mouthed the Jews and Americans equally. Not much love lost there.
