    Rom 8:33-34

33Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

34Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Now who is Christ Interceding for ? Why it is for the Elect for which He died, and Justified.

Now, When Christ died in 33 ad, and ascended into Heaven and took His seat at the Right Hand of God, He is there to make intercession for all that He died, even those Chosen ones who had not been born physically yet.

But what means this Intercession of Christ for those He died ?

Remember this word was used in the OT as well in regards to Christ and His work of the Cross Isa 53:12.

It is to assail one with petition as in the case of Ruth 1:16; Its used in its unfavorable sense here Jer 7:16

What is Jesus Christ interceding for in regards of those He died for, those whose sins were laid upon His Charge?

In this intercession to the Father, Christ prevails in Having all the Benefits of His death, of the New Covenant, having all its benefits communicated to all He died for.

Hence these men and women will spiritually come to God[by Him] because He lives to make Intercession for them. Heb 7:25

25Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

I cannot imagine of any not coming to God [ In Repentance Acts 20:21] or Conversion , whom Christ is now living to make intercession for.

If any fail to come to God[in repentance] by Him for whom He intercedes for, Then His Intercession is not effectual.

The application of Salvation to those Christ died for is accomplished by His Living Intercession for them, not because of their freewill or anything conditionally they themselves performed.

So for whom exactly was He interceding when he cried "Father forgive them" at Calvary?

The same as in Rom 8:33-34

33Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

34Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

The Holy Spirit works in conjunction with the Intercession of Christ, and He applies the blood to each elect individual Christ died for and is now interceding in behalf of. 1 Pet 1:

2Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

The sprinkling is an application of the benefits of the blood of Christ by Jesus Christ, He gives Life to the dead elect sinner, because Life is in the blood. So the Holy Spirit communicates Life to all the elect of God, Christ intercession ensures that as well.

The Lord Jesus Christ, His Intercession for all those He died for, is that of Life, that they may receive Life from the dead, because of what His death accomplished for them He died for, His death demands it's results and fruit. Jn 12:24,33

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

He was speaking of His death :vs33

33This he said, signifying what death he should die.

    God's Love in us !

If you wanna know what the things are that Christ intercession is comprised of while He is at or since at the Right hand of God, read through John 17 where He prays for His Church, those He Loved and gave Himself for Eph 5:25

    25Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

Would it not be reasonable to expect that Christ is now interceding on behalf of His Church ? Rom 8:33-34

33Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

34Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Now one of the petitions Christ prayed for in that High Priestly Prayer of Jn 17 is that the same Love which God Loved Him would be in them ! Notice Jn 17:26

26And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

Now Jesus has already stated that He is not praying for these alone meaning the disciples before him [judas was not there at the time either] but for all who should believe on Him through their word Jn 17:20

    20Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

And one of the requests is that God's Love should be in them !

This prayer is answered for Christ when each one He died for is given the Holy Ghost and God's Love is in them as a result Rom 5:5

5And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Its only after this Love of God by which He Loved us and is proof of the same, its only after that are we able and do Love him, because He first Loved us and proved it by giving us His Spirit and by doing poured proof of His love to us in us..

    1 Jn 4:19

We love him, because he first loved us.

And Christ's intercession in Heaven is for all that He died for to experience this Love of God in them.

Now if all for whom He died does not have this subjective experience of God's Love in them, then His intercession prayer has been denied by His Father.

It could only be understood if it was the best agricultural science of that time.

The Roman soldiers were the elect? Interesting!

Some had to be elect, for Jesus would NEVER have interceded for any but the elect.

As sbm suggests, the "them" in "Father, forgive them" was the elect "them"; like Bill Clinton said, it all hinges on what the meaning of "them" is.

Futher proof of this can be found in the classic Hollywood epic "The Robe":

    What Christ interedes for !

    Rom 8:34

34Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us [The Elect vs 33].

If we want to learn what are some of things Christ intercedes with the Father for in behalf of all those He died for ? We can read John 17, known as the High Priestly Prayer, and scripture says He is our High Priest who entered into heaven for us ! Heb 4:14

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

    Heb 9:24

For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

And since I believe in Christ immutability, His intercession in Heaven would be on the same lines as His recored prayer here in John 17. And this High Priestly Prayer is not for the world in General, that is not all men without exception Jn 17:9

9I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

This corresponds with what Paul wrote in Rom 8 as to who He is now interceding for, none but the Elect Rom 8:33-34

33Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

34Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

They are as Jn 17:2 shows us, those the Father hath given Him in the everlasting covenant :

2As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

And this also includes all future believers who shall believe in Him through their word Jn 17:20

    20Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

For they and them are one Jn 17:21,23

21That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

23I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

Thus far we wanted to establish who it is Christ is interceding for. God's elect, or those given to Him by the Father.
