Today, I walked into the living room only to find my wife tearing apart the corner table (by her chair) and the floor area next to her chair, totally apart! Apparently, she went to put the DVD remote control device back in the little box where she keeps the other remotes, and when I asked what happened, she told me she missed the box, the remote seemed to drop down the side of the side table, and unto the floor.

Simple find, right? Wrong! Not in our house, or our car, or anything or anywhere we go. It seems that things that disappear, really disappear, and finding them again, is next to impossible.

We call it the family "black hole!!" It kind of reminds me of Bill Cosby in one of his skits about growing older. He once said that he'd know what he wanted, get up and go into the room and to where he remembered it was last, only to find it not anywhere to be found! Thus, the eternal black hole has once again sucked up another personal belonging!

Or, as Cosby said, he knew that it was somewhere in the room, "waving, jumping up and down, and screaming at the top of its lungs, was the thing he was looking for!" But, for whatever the reason, he couldn't hear the efforts of the object to grab his attention, nor could he find the item. :wavey:

I was wondering if any of my fellow BB members have that same "black hole" lingering in their home, car, garage, backyard, purse, etc.?

And if you have this black hole, how do you successfully navigate through it to reclaim your lost item? :applause:

I look forward to your feedback, comments, and suggestions. More than anything, it will be great to know that my wife, and I am are not alone in this world of mysterious black holes!

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul :type:

It is The Borrowers who take all those items that we just know exactly where we put them.

Do you remember that series of books for children, The Borrowers series?

    Yep, we got 'em.

But they have names and a room search turns up most missing items. My youngest one has some mental issues and compulsive stealing is part of that...think over fifty items stolen over the course of a month from school, so at home it was a nightmare when I first got her two years ago until we figured it out because even if she's standing there holding the item, she'll swear on the moon "I DIDN'T DO IT!"

Although I did lose the remote a couple weeks ago. It had pulled an Osama and was hiding in plain sight in the bedroom on headboard shelf. But did I THINK to look at that perfectly normal place? Nope. We tore the whole room apart looking because I typically put it in the laundry basket (there's a good reason) and it's usually always there unless I move it doing laundry, but my husband had taken the laundry basket to the laundry room, so we were also tearing up the laundry room too.

My small black purse is a black hole. It's totally ridiculous because I either don't carry a purse or don't carry much. The problem is that the purse and lining in it is black. My cell phone is black, my ipod is black, my hair ties are black, and my vision stinks. I can find NOTHING in that stupid thing, even when I only have four items! I have to dump it or feel around and since the lining is satin like and the items that are black are also smooth, I often don't tell the difference and think the stuff isn't in there.

We have a black hole at our house. I don't know what it looks like, but I can tell you what's in it: lots of socks, keys, toys, lids to dishes, and electronic gadgets missing their cords.

I wish whoever was taking the electronic gadgets to the black hole would take the cords. I have dozens of cords and have no idea what they are for. I even put them in individual ziploc bags and had dh label them, and I store them all in one place. The next day, all the cords are out of their baggies (which have gone to the black hole) and still nobody can find the proper cord to the proper appliance/gadget/cell phone/GPS/whatever. Perhaps I should make nooses from all the cords and catch the "borrowers" who keep taking their matches to the black hole.

LOL! yep one black hole, location unknown.

But I have figured out the transportaion method. I have a thief, maybe two but only one gets caught in the act. (of stealing, not transportation or location!) My thieves have 4 legs, not two and are rather furry and soft for thieves. One steals hair bands and other assorted small objects. The other steals my sewing supplies and ick, dental picks (the plasticy ones). Where these items go I have no idea. There just aren't that many places in my house that I don't regularly clean.

As for socks, the dryer steals those, with assistance from the furry four legs described above, but also the big brown dog likes to carry them around in her mouth like a puppy.  Usually I can find the ones the dog has carried. Usually, because they are wet and I step on them. But for the rest, they are hiding behind the dryer!

My 4 legged thief steals my pony tail holder right off my head!

He doesn't even wait until I take it out of my hair.

The black hole in my house is on my counter top and there are millions of those little wire bread ties residing in it.

    We Found the Remote....

Hallelujah! The remote is once again in our possession. We found it comfortable wedged into the bottom back side of my wife's recliner. There is this small pouch like piece of material (kind of like a mother Kangaroo's pouch) where nothing should ever be able to find its way, but it did. :BangHead:

Only after tearing everything apart not once, but three times, did we notice this small opening in the backside of her recliner. Looking at each other, we said, "No way could it be in there, but feeling the area of that pouch like hole, she felt the remote, reached in, and pulled it out.

We've found more than the remote. We've found one more possible hiding place for whatever it is that likes to hide things we drop or misplace.

Good luck to all of you, and please keep the stories coming. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. I no longer feel like we're alone in this world, fighting the mysterious power of the black hole!

Glad you found the remote. Never fear, new black holes will develop once you've uncovered one.

Have you noticed that Black Holes get bigger on the weekends? On Saturday nights, they grow to hide the children's shoes, the Bibles, Mom's hairspray and Dad's favorite tie. On Sunday night they swell again and steal the car keys and cellphone, hide sack lunches, and suck the gas out of the car and money from the wallet, all in an effort to make everybody late for work or school.

    Amen!

This was something that I thought a good portion of members would share about. You are so right on! That is why I said, the black holes can be just about anywhere you are or go!

All you can do is what we did. Put it to rest for the night, and prayed the Holy Ghost would shine His light on the lost remote. He did just that, and now we are rejoicing, until the next hole swollows up something else.

Isn't it amazing what these holes do to ruin a perfectly normal day?

Shalom, and to all of you who have been victimized by the infamous black hole, "Happy Hunting!" :wavey:

I have found that prayer works wonders. What was lost, can't stay lost forever, can it?
