another old saw to retire

    The old saw "you are explaining away scripture" when we disagree about the application of scripture needs to be retired, right along with pinko and liberal and fundy and bowing to the culture of today.

    Or else we apply it also to those who "explain away" and allow unmarried male pastors, hirelings in the pulpit, not wearing the veil or burka, hold to only 24 hour days when scripture points to other meanings of yom, etc.

    Let's debate, not attack.

    Much in agreement here Nodak. From my experience, some have too much a passioned position that they are the ones who know all (most) truth with regards to God and scriptures. No doubt, it is natural for us to be convinced that we (each of us) rightly divides the word and its principles and mysteries. The rub comes when we respond in a visceral way to those who see things from a different perspective.
