Here is the first "test" to see which candidate is closest to your views.

    SELECT SMART

I voted for the first time in 1976; I have always felt it was my duty to vote. For the first time ever, I am considering not voting. It seems that there is no candidate that I can vote for with a clear conscience.

God has changed my heart drastically in the last couple of years in regard to abortion and gay marriage. In good conscience, I will not be able to vote for a candidate who supports either abortion or gay marriage.

The conflict comes where other issues are involved: affordable health care, saving social security and medicare so that our elderly are not living in poverty, quality education for our children, being good stewards of the environment. Is there a pro-life, pro-marriage candidate who is concerned about these other issues too?

I don't think there is a candidate I can vote for. :tear:

Sometimes a candidate will not mention all the issues

I doubt you will ever find a candidate who you agree with 100% of the time. So you need to find one that you agree with most of the time on the most important issues.
But you do need to vote - remember you vote could make the difference.

by the way, did you take the quiz - which candidate came up with the best score on your issues?

    Me - Rick Santorum

But keep in mind we still have 16 months till the election

I did take the quiz. My top candidate was Huckabee (unannounced), followed by Obama, Paul and Romney.

I am so glad that we still have 16 months until the election. I'm a registered Democrat, so can't vote in the GOP primary, but I will definitely be taking a closer look at the GOP candidates and their positions on various issues. I guess the bottom line is that I won't be able to vote for Obama, since abortion and marriage have become my top issues. Those issues go to the core of who we are as Christians. I want to vote, and I realize that every vote counts.

I will need to spend a lot of time on my knees!

Mine was Rick Santorum among the announced candidates. My top 5 were among those not running...

The one who least represented my positions: Barack Obama (wow, I am so surprised)

Well actually Mike Pence, Mitt Romney, and Rick Santorum all come in at 72% for me. I just picked Mitt because I've always liked him as a conservative. I probably need to check out Santorum and Pence. I know nothing about them.

I see your suggestion of a third party and I offer three words:

    Another Obama Victory.

I agree. I've voted third party several times and may have to do so again.

I've no doubt Ross Perot cost George Sr. the election (I voted for him); but he was dead on spot about that great big 'sucking sound' of jobs leaving the U.S. with the trade agreement (which Dems & Repubs alike endorsed).

When I checked what the survey had as candidates views I noticed they had many of the candidates without positions indicated. I did the math and the survey is only crediting the percentage of what the candidate was on record for. All others were considered as a disagreement to achieve the final score.

    (did that make sense???)

Santorum was linked as the highest of those who have announced. Though, I can not see me supporting him for the nomination.

I thought about 3rd party but Ron Paul is from this area and I have seen him bought out. So I do not think there is a whole lot of actual difference between him and the other politicoes who are looking out for themselves.

Really? Not doubting you, but you've raised my curiosity. What specifically are you referring to? I'd like to know. (he's not in my area)

The thought just occured to me, hasn't Paul promised that he would NOT run independent if he didn't get the R nomination? He has kept that promise in the past.
