Luke a Gentile?

    I would like to hear both sides of this and support for either way, especially at one time Jesus said this?

    Matthew 15:
    23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.” 24He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

    Luke

    I should of done a poll. Luke who wrote most of the new testament Jew or Gentile?

    Which brings another question did Luke write most of the new-testament than any other writer inspired by the Holy Spirit?

    That'd be news to me. To the best of my knowledge Luke is credited with writing the gospel bearing his name, and the book of Acts, and that's all.

    By the way, regarding the Canaanite woman, read the rest of Matt 15. Jesus healed her daughter, calling the mother a woman of great faith.

    The article is where i got the question did Luke write most of the new testament than the other writers attributed, not books, but writing?

    I do believe the Gospel is open to all men Jews and Gentiles, i know He healed the women's daughter, but my question is with His attitude at first would Jesus pick a Gentile as a disciple?

    That at the point of the Canaanite women that the whole being of Christ from the Father through the Holy Spirit within Him learned that the message was for all men not just for the Jews.

    Luke may have been a hellenistic Jew, but my thinking would be Gentile convert. His references, word choices, even grammar seem to reflect non-jewish nature.

    Jesus began (first 2 years of public ministry) with offer of kingdom to jews only. This message then changed to include gentiles. That was a HUGE "mystery" (Jews and Gentiles together in one church) and hard for Jews to swallow.

    As for writing more NT Scripture, count the words.
    As I recall it is Luke (Longest Gospel + Acts), then Paul (epistles), then John (Gospel + Apocalypse + short letters), then Matthew (gospel), then Peter (shortest Gospel mislabeled Mark + letters), then Barnabas (Hebrews), and finally James and Judas' letters

    May be wrong - not near my library!!

    I think I'm going to lurk regarding this thread. This is an area where I am clueless.

    I have to remind myself that 'tis better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

    If Paul wrote Hebrews he wins, if not Luke wins.

    A good study of Hosea will shed light on the Matthew 15:23 passage.

    There is no clear cut author of Hebrews. Many (including myself) believe Apollos penned it.

    Luke was assumed by ALL in the early church to have been a gentile, who converted to jesus Christ as the messiah...
    Recognized with dissent as penning both Acts/Gospel, as his authority to be writer of inspried scripture" piggy backed" under Apostle paul, just as mark coved by Apostle peter authority!

    Thank You Dr. Bob I agree with this, the writer of Hebrew I think knew Paul very well. I knew you meant Jude not Judas by the way unless you like Judas name for Jude better?
