THIS POLL IS FOR PRIMITIVE BAPTISTS ONLY. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE A VOTE ON THE POLL UNLESS YOU ARE PB. THANK YOU.

How many PB's on BB believe in the predestination of all things, and how many don't? I pose this questions just to satisfy my own curiosity, not to spur debate. But comments are welcome.

    Note # 4 on Predestination

    4. What is their position on predestination?

Answer: They believe that God has predestinated a great number to be conformed to the image of His Son (Rom.8: 28-30) .While some object to this doctrine because they say it is unfajr, Primitive Baptists rejoice in it, for they see that had it not been for predestination, the whole human family would have been lost forever. Predestination is not the thing that condemns a man, or puts him in a ruined condition, but the very thing that gets him out of such a state. Predestination concerns not "what" but "whom." It is the great purpose of God to lift a people up from sin and corruption and make them like Jesus Christ. That's glorious !

Do PB hold that people that are elected/predestined will get to heaven even IF they fail to place faith in jesus? they are still regenerated?

Not any more since I've come to understand both Calvinism and PB theology better.

This is my favorite........the Presbyterians can take a long walk off a short pier after I found out about this!

    29. Do Primitive Baptists preach infants in Hell ?

Answer: No, the doctrine preached by Primitive Baptists is the only message which leaves any hope for infants, the feeble-minded, and the heathen, most religious groups preach that one must hear and understand the gospel, actively obey the gospel, and manifestly believe on Christ, in order to become a child of God. But the great message of grace which is so firmly believed and preached by Old Baptists, declares that one may be a recipient of the mercy of God without hearing the report of it through the gospel and even without fully understanding what has taken place in his heart. If infants, the feeble minded, and the heathen must hear the gospel preached by man and actively repent and believe the truth, then there is no hope for them. But since salvation is by the sovereign grace of God through the work of His Son, we know that He will save His own regardless of their circumstances in life (Rom. 8 :34-39; Rom. 11 :28; II Tim. 2 :13, 16-19) .

Question: Why the name Primitive Baptist?

Primitive Baptist ancestors have been called by various names over the ages. The name Primitive Baptist became popular in the early 1800s when the term primitive conveyed the idea of originality rather than backwardness. Accordingly, Primitive Baptists claim to maintain the doctrines and practices of the original Baptists, who are claimed to be the New Testament church.

Primitive also conveys the idea of simplicity. This well describes the Primitive Baptists, whose church services consist of nothing more than preaching, praying, and singing.

There are Primitive Baptists who are absolutists, and there are those who are not. I belong to the latter. Some of our Primitive Baptist forefathers, I have been told, are absolutists.

I do not believe in the absolute predestination of all things, if "all things" include sin in the life of a child of God (some use Romans 8:28 to justify this).

The "all things" Paul mentions in Romans 8:28 are also the "these things" Paul refers to in Romans 8:31 which are God's actions on behalf of His people:foreknowledge, predestination, calling, justification, glorification.

I believe that God predestinated His people to be conformed to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29) and to the adoption of children by Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:5).

It is ironic that in spite of our differences in theology, we do have much in common. The IFB church I was saved at was very similar. We were very simple in our living and worship. The main difference between what you did and what we did was that we had musical instruments during our singing. In fact, I was the organist!

It seem like during the years, Christianity has become much more complicated than it used to be. We never argued over Calvinism or really anything else. We spent our time worshiping and studying about God and the Gospel.

FWIW, I talked with a lady a while back, and we were talking about church, and "having church" in her hospital room. When I asked her where she belonged, she said that she belonged to a PB church. I asked her if they held to predestination, and she said they didn't. Does anyone on here know of any PB churches that do not believe in predestination? She may have confused what I asked with "absolute" predestination, however. But, this is the only PB church that I have ever heard of that did not believe in this doctrine.

    Brother, don't be surprised !
There ARE Primitive Baptists who (1)are not very well grounded in doctrine, and there are those who (2) do know the doctrine but have no idea what you mean when you ask them the doctrine by name. Are you ROTFL yet ?

And there are those, like Fred Phelps, who call themselves Primitive Baptists when (1) what they mean is they're old-fashioned, mean-spirited, foul-mouthed, bullies who are lean in doctrine (like Fred Phelps).

also, there are Black Primitive Baptists, who are actually Arminian in their doctrine. If the lady you spoke about was Black, she may have given you an honest answer.
