In your church's classes for new converts (assuming that your church has them, or has some program for new converts), is it discussed how Christians should treat each other?

I was having a discussion with my son-in-law today, a youth minister and song leader for a small church in Oklahoma; and mentioned Matthew 18:15 as the guideline for how Christians should deal with problems between each other. He mentioned that we often overlook these teachings because it encourages people to bring problems to light, and deal with them, rather than hold them as some way of being able to have a "better than thou" mentality.

We emphasize so much "read your bible, pray, and go to church"; where does "how to deal daily with other Christians" fit into our new convert teaching?

Or am I making a mountain out of a molehill?

I've never thought about whether or not this should be a part of follow-up for new believers, but I think it is very important for all Christians.

I teach it as part of a set of lessons on the Sermon on the Mount that I've taught through with different people. I consider the SOTM to be the essential passage on the Christian life, and of course on personal relations too.

My pastors and Elders at our Church are very big on the fact that we are all one in the Body of Christ IF saved and redeemed by grace of God...

We have our "baptist' view on theology and scriptures, but allow others to have their own theology and ways to do things, as long as it falls under label "preferences/convictions" and does not violate essentially doctrine/practices of the faith!

JF, pardon my confusion, but I don't see how that answers my question -- unless you're saying, your church doesn't teach anything about "living a Christian life."

In our "new converts" group, we tend to teach on who they are are in Christ now, how they can overcome old habits and persist sinning, and that way to do this is because we now havethe Holy Spirit in us...

We tend to look to put a heavt empasis on their new identies, and new empowering by HS... So that they casn learn early on just HOW to live an "abudant" life in Christ... NOT one of ease/comfort/p;easure, but one with victory over sins, and peace and spiritual growth!

    Gotcha.

How do you feel about my question, about teaching some of the basic principles of how we're supposed to treat each other? As in, if you have a problem with someone else in the church, take the problem to that person?

Hi Don, discipleship is important. I believe the most import item to teach new believers is how to study the bible. I we just give them a few fish, i.e. a few points from the SOTM, we have failed to "teach them all I have commanded." And of course one of the commands is to live by God's word.

I have posted a couple of times what Christ's commands and teachings are, that we are to "abide in." Something like 75 of them in all. We should systematically teach all of them until the new believer knows them and understands these actions spring from a heart full of love of God, rather than being compelled by the threat of severe consequences.

    God Bless

Hi EWF, look up discipleship and brain washing and see if you are able to grasp the difference. Hope springs eternal.

If the root of all evil is greed, what is the mother of all evil? Speculation? Unsound bible study. The world has little to fear in what man does in the name of evil, but God help us from what man does in the name of good. Wisdom from Gecko and Paladin.

Good question, as one person heresy is anothers biblical theology!

baptist Church, part of the North American Baptist Conference, Great lakes Division...

We are working through right now a systematic theology primer written by my pastor DR randy rheume ...

basically we are baptist in theology, grace alone faith alone adhere to the 'essentials" of the christian faith such as

    God as a Truine being
    Bible inspired/infaalibe/Sole authority
ChurchUniversal and local assemblies of believers
Saved by jesus ALONE, by the Cross ALONE grace alone faith alone
pre Mill open to timing of the rapture
    Dispy
Spiritual Gifts are "open area" free to hold own opinion, NO Gifts in operation

We are "open" to Christians having disagreements in areas such as Gifts for today, timing of the rapture modes of basptism (DO teach full immersion believers baptism"

So Baptist, but not "strictly" by the Book !

There is a little thing called "respect". If we truly learn what "respect" is, we also learn to apply the fundamentals of Christianity.

    Cheers,
