It sounds like a reasonable explanation. Even she admits it was stupid, but I can understand how things could get carried away before you realize what is really going on.

An opposing view, containing many facts and quotes that Hanoi Jane conveniently doesn't mention or glosses over:

    http://frontpagemag.com/2011/07/21/jane-fonda-“i-have-never-done-anything-to-hurt-my-country”

Here's a video that contains the actual broadcasts Jane Fonda made calling our soldiers war criminals. She now contends, "It was never my intention to cause harm. It is certainly painful for me that I, who had spent so much time talking to soldiers, trying to help soldiers and veterans, helping the anti-war movement to not blame the soldiers, now would be seen as being against our soldiers!" Compare that contention to her actual words then:

She is clearly continuing to try to drastically revise history, rather than admit the truth and genuinely repent of it. I think Hanlon's Razor, that the most obviously explanation is usually the right one, applies here. She simply wants to rehabilitate her image without actually repenting of her attitudes and actions at the time, because she is not at all sorry for anything - except being caught on film sitting on the antiaircraft gun.

Forty years is a long time. We may never know the whole truth. One thing I do know is that I am glad we are not all held accountable for the incredibly stupid things we did in those years.

I did three tours in Nam and none of the POWs have any good to say for her and that carries a lot of weight with me. She was and she is a traitor.

On the other hand, it turned out that the government position and the war was wrong. Back then, I was wrong. The war protestors were right.

She didn't just protest the war. She slandered and demoralized our troops and directly gave aid and comfort to the enemy in their own country. That's a bit more than protesting.

*sigh* It isn't about personal forgiveness. I wish no ill on Jane Fonda. I would be more than happy to let the whole thing go once and for all if she would truly repent of what she did instead of continuing to lie about it and claiming that she is the victim. As long as she keeps doing that, it is absolutely appropriate, and not at all unloving, for other people to point out what really happened.
