Why oh why???

    Why on earth do so many have to paste and repaste original statements before they answer questions? It make the forum much longer, using up memory space.

    Further, to boggles the minds of people like myself who have memory difficulties, and hence makes the whole post imcomprehensible through confusion.

    Can they not remember what the topic is? Have they so gone off topic that their contribution is an utter waste anyway?

    I just don't understand.

    Usually I do it when I'm answering a particular part of a post but I've just found out that I can't do that when I'm on my iPad. I can post above a quote but to edit it to just what I want is a pain in the neck!

    It happens regardless if some agrees with what they're quoting or objectiing to it.

    I am in full agreement with Gentleman Jim on this one.

    I am with you 100% on this as "reposting" an entire OP is one of my pet peeves - Only if I was a moderator - I would be doing a lot of editing - hmm, maybe that is why I am not a moderator:smilewinkgrin:

    I try to understand your issue and empathize with you.

    Many times as the posts grow longer, and others are contending with one another, it at times becomes necessary to quote with whom you are specifically contending to stay on track with that and to distinguish that argument or debate.

    Looks like you are interested in following threads and this has confused you to an extent, with your memory diffculties.

    I will tend to quote just that which I am replying to. If the discussion has gone all over, I'll quote the OP just so that it's clear that is what I'm replying to and not the replies.

    I often wonder myself why anyone would waste space simply quoting something someone posted and not say a single work of their own. What purpose does that serve other than increasing their own number of posts?

    You actually can't do that. You HAVE to post something yourself. I've accidentally put my post inside the quote codes and it won't let me post it - The message you have entered is too short" or some such.

    I agree with Jim! At times, quote snips from a long post are helpful - but it is rarely necessary to quote an entire lengthy post. I understand the reasoning, but it does make for a messy and hard to read thread.

    It must have been in other forums that was done, because I've seen it many times--quoting without saying anything.

    That's weird! I think it's a vBulletin thing that you can't post less than 10 characters and a quote doesn't count. :)

    I think Ann is correct here, I have had to add little words to have my post accepted,and I don't include quotes.
