A friend sent this to me........

    “THE SOUTHERN TEN COMMANDMENTS:

This is much easier to remember...

    (1) Just one God.
    (2) Put nothin' before God.
    (3) Watch yer mouth.
    (4) Git yourself to Sunday meetin'.
    (5) Honor yer Ma & Pa.
    (6) No killin'.
    (7) No foolin' around with another feller's gal (or 'nother gal's feller).
    (8) Don't take what ain't yorn.
    (9) No tellin' tales or gossipin'.
    (10) Don't be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff...

Now that's plain an' simple. And bless your little cotton pickin' heart!!!!”

It’s cute, but my only problem with it, would be it’s interpretation of the 3rd commandment......
    Deuteronomy 5:11
“Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold [him] guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”

This is the danger, of getting away from the “actual words of Scripture”!
    --------------------------------------------------
Although I have never made that big of a deal out of the “10 commandments”:
(I would never have them posted at my Church, etc.)
Simply because keeping them, won’t get anyone to heaven!

I have always seen the 3rd commandment as going deeper than simply using the LORD’s name inappropriately!

    For instance, if some says that they are a Christian(or walking with God), when they really aren’t;
Or if they claim to be a Christian, even when they are living like the devil.
(This is also, “using the Lord’s name in vain”!)

There’s also a problem with the 4th - - - the commandment designates observance of the seventh day and not the first.

    Salty,

re: "and that is the one commandment that Jesus did NOT repeat in the New Testament"

What’s your point - that the Messiah HAS to repeat something more than once in order to make it official?

Christ did not repeat the 4th commandment even once, let alone "more than once".

The point being is that under Grace we are not bound by the Sabbath.

Therefore are you saying we need to (re-)start to keep the Sabbath Holy by worshiping on Saturday?

    Salty,

re: "The Lord did not repeat even once, let alone ‘more than once.’"

Sorry, I should have said "...that the Messiah HAS to command something more than once in order to make it official?"

re: "The point being is that under Grace we are not bound by the Sabbath."

So you’re saying that there is no such thing as sin anymore?

re: "Therefore are you saying we need to (re-)start to keep the Sabbath Holy by worshiping on Saturday?"

As far as scripture is concerned, there is no abolishment of the Sabbath and therefor it is still in force for the seventh day of the week.

Yes you may, but no, I am not a member of a Seventh Day Baptist organization.
