Absolutely no alcohol as a beverage.

I was called out far too many times to help a battered woman at the hands of a drunken fool to even consider that beverage. I have no use for it.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Used to drink some when I was younger, until I got drunk one night and would never have made it home without the help of my "friend", I was fortunate I didn't get arrested for public drunkeness or DUI. At the time I was conflicted about what it meant to be a Christian, those I saw around me professing Christianity appeared to be no different than the world. My problem was I was looking at others instead of Christ. After that episode I would drink occasionally, but never get drunk again. As time went on I was personally convicted that as a Christian no good could come from it, and began to isolate myself from those "friends" who liked to drink. I haven't had anything to drink in almost 8 years (except a free sample of moonshine at a distillery that opened in Gatlinburg, TN) If not for God's grace I'm sure I would be an alcoholic today, because I've had many in my family deal with alcoholism, and I have the personality type bent towards addiction/dependency.

Occassionally, in my own home with a meal or just before, we'll have a glass of wine.

Just as occassionally if I have cold I can't get relief from, or I AM cold and its a rainy miserable evening, I'll mix up a cup of tea and add a splash of whiskey.

More often the whiskey is used for the sauce we pour over my husband's bread pudding. Or, I'll drop a couple of split vanilla beans into a pint of vodka. Makes the best vanilla flavoring around (gotta use good vodka and quality beans though).

Even more often than that I'll make a loaf of beer bread. It's really good with my husbands stew (which is liberally flavored with red wine). Don't drink beer though. Beer isn't appealing to me in the least.

And no, it doesn't embarass me in the least to be seen going into the local ABC store. Folks need a good example of responsible alcohol use and I'm never shy about telling what I'm going to do with my purchase. Usually we get asked as we walk in the door what we are making now.

And I never drink away from home, because I am always the driver. Not worth even the minicule risk that my reaction time might be slowed down.

The only reasons I don't drink alcohol are (1) I can't afford it. (2) All of it contains sugar, and I'm diabetic. (3) There are very few alcoholic drinks that taste good in my opinion--some wines and wine coolers being at the top of the list of the good ones.

Beer tastes nasty--except for German beer. Drinks with high alcohol content burn the mouth too much to suit me. I even dislike mouthwashes with alcohol because of the burning.

Other than all that, I don't believe there is anything wrong with moderate drinking, but we are told in God's word not to be drunk. If I could afford it and wasn't diabetic, I would drink Bartles (sp?) and James Peach Wine Coolers. It's like a peach drink with a kick.

Ahhhhhh Grand Marnier, the worlds most famous brandy-based orange liqueur. While expensive....to keep it in the liquor chest or cupboard for the cold weather & especially when you have that nagging cold & sore trout! Forget the Niquil...guaranteed that a small snifter will take care of the pain, you will enjoy it & sleep like a baby. A little goes a long way!

Yes. Gin and tonic with my wife before an important meal plus a glass of wine with it. A couple of beers (real ale, that is, not the fizzy lager you call 'beer') at the pub with friends from church once a month.

Yes, particularly a few beers while watching the Browns games...

With them you need it :)

Nothing like a summer cookout with good food and a cooler full of ice cold frosty beverages.

Not a huge wine fan, but will drink a glass or two on occasion.

I noticed that the alcohol content of Niquil (or is it Nyquil?) was cut from 25% to only 10%, and it no longer worked; that was when I quit using it. Apparently, there is nothing in Niquil that does anything. It was the alcohol that made me feel better and allowed me to sleep.

The answer "I do not drink alcohol" would have fitted me, but I chose "other", because it is for medical reasons. (The long-term medication I am on makes it dangerous for me). It's no hardship, because I far prefer the taste of tea, coffee, orange juice, etc.

The Vicar does attend; he normally manages to time his appearance at the pub when someone else is buying a round...

Seems thats the MO of most of you Prod Pastors ....but I come from a different era & time when the pastors were just as hard drinkin & hard living as their flock or were so prior to some conversion but there an again most of those fellas were Irish, German or Italian & they had live hard lives growing up & knew their flock intimately....they had dinner with you, visited you regularly, coached the street ball games, broke up the fights etc....they were almost part of the family....so to ask one of them to have a beer with you was no big deal or reason to raise an eyebrow. Some great discussions came out of it & you loved the guy more....he was human but had a higher calling. Alas the past is gone.

Not sure how this relates to my post though. All I mentioned was that I cannot drink alcohol, because of the medication I am on. (I also said that I found this no hardship, because I prefer the taste of other drinks that happen not to be alcoholic).

If someone asked me to have a beer with them, I would just thank them, and explain why I cannot drink beer.
