    ...if so, what did you say?

    And, what has He said to you lately?

    Also, why do we freak out when we hear others talk about what God has spoken to them about, yet, when we believe He has spoken to us, we act as the privileged child, knowing He has spoken to us, and cast doubt upon others????

    How do you verify it is the Lord speaking?

    Run from anyone who says they have heard God audibly.

    God has never spoken to me audibly, but has made his will known to me.

    In my own experience, God has used a number of means.

    First, through scripture. All of us can cite an instance or more when the Holy Spirit applied a passage directly to us.

    Then, by creating an intense desire within us. I have questioned many preachers about their call to preach. More than one said there arose within them this desire to preach. On the other hand, one preacher told me that he knew God was calling him, but he didn't want to answer. He said God proceeded to make him miserable, and only when he surrendered did he have peace.

    To be sure, it's not foolproof. I have an intense desire for a new car, but so far, no dice.

    Then there are instances where God opened some doors and shut others.

    I'm sure others of you can add to this list some situation where God revealed his will through circumstances.

    Well, I pray all the time, so yes I speak to God.

    As far as God speaking to me, he has never spoken audibly to me as he did to Paul on the road to Damascus, but when I read the scriptures I often get convicted for my sins. I can barely read scripture without seeing my sin and asking forgiveness. So, in this way God speaks to me.

    And then, sometimes I think about different situations and how I should handle them. I hear fellows joking around at work. They are all nice guys, and it is easy to be drawn into such a conversation. Then I will remember certain scripture like this;

    Eph 5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
    2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
    3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
    4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

    This has always been a bit of a problem with me, I have always been a joker. It is boasting, and boasting is a sin, but folks know me to have a quick wit and I can get folks laughing easily. But over the years I have come to be ashamed of this. I try to remember scripture like this so I do not participate in foolish jesting. It is difficult to witness to folks about Christ if you have acted the fool and worldly on many occasions. So, everyday I pray the Holy Spirit will quickly remind me not to fool around like this. I still fail at times, but not nearly as much as I did when I was younger. Most times I quickly remember this scripture and do not participate in foolish jesting. So, in this way God speaks to me, I hear his scripture.

    True story!! One time a few years ago, God was pressing me to do something that I didn't want to do. I knew that He was wanting me to, but I was hoping to "outlast" Him....I know, BAD IDEA!! One saturday night, I was lying in bed, praying to Him. During my prayer(I was praying to Him in my head, and not outloud), asking Him to help me grow in the ministry. All of a sudden, I could hear Him say this in my head, "Why should I help you when you won't do what I want you to do?"This actually happened to me. Now, His voice wasn't audible, but He spoke to me in plain words, that only I could hear. I do not want people to think this is foolish, but it actually happened.

    Of course He speaks to us...

    Revelation 2:29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

    He said this seven times so it must be important that we listen for His voice.

    Yes, from the scripture through our spiritual ears, of course.

    Sounds like He got ahold of you.

    Looks like He also cast aside your "freewill" and used a Php. 2:13 on you. His grace won out. :)

    There are some on here that wouldn't believe that God did that, and changed your heart to accomplish His purposes.

    The key here is that God will never speak or do contrary to His Nature, or His Word.

    Not speaking or even wanting to go to audible voice here. It's not necessary, and for some reason Baptists get fixated on inserting it into the conversation.

    So why do some get upset, nervous, twisted, other things when a brother or sister talks about how the Lord talked to them? (again, not audibly)

    IMO, It's an understandable reaction to the abuse (alleged of course) of some who say things like "I just got a word about someone with a bad back here in the audience".

    Not that God is incapable of giving an audible word but does He in this age of grace?

    Yes, we've allowed false-teachers on TV and elsewhere to cause us to flinch when it comes to some issues.

    Regrettably we still have some within baptist churches who watch these false teachers, believe what they say, and adopt their teachings. "It's right there in the Bible!" :rolleyes:

    Most of these employ proof-text methodologies, and their followers do the same. This deficient interpretation method has lended to much error within the local churches.

    God does still speak to us today though, through His Word. Sometimes it's to comfort, sometimes to chasten, sometimes to warn, or to encourage, or to vindicate our stand, among other things. His voice is comforting, in all of it.

    I often wonder why we go through dry spells, where it seems He has not spoken to us fresh for a period of time?

    Anyone who says to me, "God told me . . . " I consider deceived. If what they "heard" doesn't agree with the Scripture, it's false; if it does, it's needless, and God does nothing that is needless.

    We can stay on top of our mountain build our temple, but the people are in the valley that need Jesus.
    The above verses is what changed me in who Jesus is. I have as long as I know talked with God, I was a loner He was my only real friend besides my family. When God introduced me to Jesus and who Jesus is He did it with the above words. I loved God I didn't need Jesus. How wrong I was I am a sinner who needed a savior no matter how much I was friends with God I still needed the bridge to get to God for my sins. I started my walk with the words of Jesus at a very young age that God loved the world. The Creator of the universe loved me a nobody in this world. It took me tell I came to Jesus to realize it was the words of God our Father through Jesus Christ that drew me to God in the first place.

    I think the text book answer to this question is God speaks to us through prayerful study of His Word, and we speak to God through prayer about ourselves, our issues, our thankgiving, our need for growth, and for God to help us live according to His will.

    I would not run from someone who says God talked to them audibly, but would run if the revelation differed from what God says through His word. One day I was lying down next to a white water river (the Kings) listening to the sound of the water, and the wind, and Psalm 23 sprang into my mind. Was that His voice saying "Van, come home to Me?"

    Well, since I pray regularly, the obvious answer is YES, I have spoken to God today, just like every day.

    And yes, He speaks back. Not audibly, and not every time, but He communicates back to me nonetheless.

    There have been times when He has discernably "inclined" me to go to a particular place, and upon ariving it was very apparent that God did indeed direct me to go there.

    Praise God.

    Furthermore, Bro. P4T, He has showed me many things when I have been on the riding lawnmower, or whacking weeds with a weedeater. Oddly enough, when I am doing either of these "delightful" chores, I will study the Word in my mind. I take a more liberal approach to James 2:15, when it says to study to show thyself approved. I believe one studies, not so much as when he/she reads, but after they have set their bible down, and begin to ponder on what they just read. To me, this is studying. I find it harder for me to study as I read, so I read a few chapters, and then I will reflect on what I just read, sometimes for a day or two.....and sometimes I will study on something that I haven't read for a while. When God shows me something from His Word, that is His way of speaking to me, too.

    But I do think He does speak to His children through the "inner man", and this "inner man" knows Who it is that is speaking, and what He is saying.

    Didn't Peter Popoff get busted back in the '80's doing this such a thing? I watched a 20/20 documentary(I think it was 20/20), and this P.I. watched him. He found out that his wife was greeting the visitors, and was asking them how they were doing. If they told her about an ailment, she would remember what they said. When it came time for the "healing portion" of the service, she would tell him about someone's ailment(he had a hearing device inside his ear that enabled him to hear her and that device not be seen), and then he'd say, "Someone here has a back out of ailgnment", etc. They swallowed it hook, line, and sinker......until he was busted. I will try to find a link to this.

    Well, that might construe a case of fraud but I don't know.

    They could probably say that this was simply their way of communicating the needs of others by this electronic device.

    Did he say "the Lord told me" or indicate this? Be interesting to see the documented charge.
