    No, because the Bible is already completed.

    The bible tells us who the Apostles were and if I remember correctly they have all died.
    As to prophets not in the sense of new revelation, but every person who speaks the word of God is a prophet.

    Well, leaving aside Acts 1:21-2 which lays down the criteria for an apostle and is confirmed by 1Cor 9:1; 15:8-9, I would go for Eph 2:20. How many foundations does a building have? And when is the foundation laid?

    End of story. Have nothing to do with any church where the leaders call themselves apostles or prophets.

    According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it.
    1 Corinthians 3:10 (ESV)

    Good thread!

    Apostles received their message (the foundation) directly from Messiah Jesus.
    Most Christians believe God's word to his chosen was completed in the NT.
    I’m particularly suspicious of those that claim they have a direct message from our Lord.

    The Greek word for Apostle is translated 3X as ‘messenger’ - John 13:16; 2 Corinthians 8:23; Philippians 2:25;

    75 times it is translated, apostle.

    2X the word apostle is differentiated by the word “special” [Greek - hyperlian] – 2 Corinthians 11:5; 12:11;

    In 1 Corinthians 4 Paul’s service as an apostle is distinguished from that of Apollos who was a significant and charismatic leader of the Corinthian church.
    Paul notes in the same chapter that the apostles were a humbled bunch.

    I think some Christians today use the word in the general ‘messenger’ sense but use the term to promote themselves above others.

    That tells me that they are NOT apostles.

    Hebrews 1:1-2 sheds some light on the subject.

    The writer clearly says God spoke "in time past" to the prophets.

    Now, "these last days," he has spoken through the Son.

    We know what the Son says through the scriptures, and only through the scriptures.

    Just seeing if the problem might be that what one group calls Apostles/prophets, might mean it in the sense as the NT times, which are NOT today, but what if used in a more general sense?

    In the Old Testament ((Deuteronomy 18) The primary test of a true prophet of God is that what they prophesy comes true. 100% correct, 100% of the time

    If they blow a prophecy, they are not of God.

    You might remind them what they did to false prophets back then. They killed them.
