Yep, me too. I had credit cards once, and I had problems. I cut them all up way back in 1985 and haven't had one since. I have mananged to survive quite well without them.
I have a debit card, works just fine for everything I need.

I have 5 credit cards and NO debit cards. I charge $20-25k a month spread over the cards, and pay them off in entirety each month.

As a result I earn 10-12 free airline tickets a year and usually one free cruise. As I would have to pay tax on money (some offer 2 cents or such back) and do not have to pay tax on services given (free trips), I opt for the trips.

No pin numbers, no ATM's, no messing with my checkbook. And detailed record of all purchases for the month for Uncle Sam.

I am 63 and on Social Security. When younger I was caught in the credit card "exhorbitant interest" game and walked away in 1985 (same time as Winman). Never looked back. Found that if one has self-discipline, credit cards work. If more restrictions are needed, debit cards work (built in limits).

Dave Ramsey and I disagree on this one and now, I'd suppose, there may be some "free flights" via debit cards but not needed by me.

Properly managed debt can aid in providing for families and allowing for a reasonably comfortable lifestyle. I dont have a problem with credit cards so long as they are properly managed.

Our family uses three rewards cards for a number of purchases. Our main card handles most of our day-to-day purchases and once a year provides a cash back reward. This year (last week was the posting of this reward) we got a little over $500 back. Other cards are useful for major purchases when special APRs are introduced. We pay off our frequently used cards every month.

For instance we try to go on a big international vacation once a year. We find the proper offer and use it. Allows for wonderful times and experiences.

Though the principles about money management are good I do wonder how much of a difference living in an agrarian society/economy of biblical times vs. our current market based economy. It might seem an urbane discussion, but maybe it's one worth considering.

Yeah and also dont forget that some MAJOR Credit cards offer Quicken Direct Connect FREE OF CHARGE so you do not need to enter anything into your account register, as it will all download right in. With my debit card I have to pay a fee for this service.

I have used credit cards for 30-40 years and have never paid any interest on them. I always paid the full balance each month. If I needed extra money, I would borrow from my mortgage credit line where the interest is much less that credit cards, and is tax deductable.

I am glad that credit cards were not available (at least to us) 50 years ago when we first got married; we may have started making partial payments when our money was really tight.

My wife and I will be taking a trip to the Grand Canyon in October, paid for by frequent flyer miles earned via credit cards.

We've been saving for years with the hope of paying for a transportation free extended-family trip following the graduation of our last child.

The credit card company decided otherwise; the program cost them too much and told us use them all by the end of the year, they are ending the milage program.

We'll take a trip to Disney with my grandchildren later in the year.

Sadly, we are still paying for college; these trips have free transportation but we stilll have to pay for lodging and food, the budgets rather tight... but use it or loose it.

I was notified today that my bank will begin charging $4 each month I use my debit card for other than an ATM transaction. Rather than go through the hassle of changing banks to avoid the fee, I will use my credit card instead of the debit card.

Don't want to ignite a firestorm of controversy but what is the best CC for getting FF miles, etc?
