So after all the hoopla about his big jobs plan...

Obama rolls out a laundry list of spending and handouts to his base and then passes the buck to the deficit reduction super committee to find a way to pay for it !!

“By asking the Joint Select Committee to increase the $1.5 trillion target to cover the full cost of his plan, the president is essentially tasking a committee designed to reduce the deficit to pay for yet another round of stimulus,” Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Tex.) said in a statement after the president’s speech to Congress."

He's pathetic. He must have ended 8 or 9 segments of his speech by imploring, "pass this bill now!" Then he said "there might be some that believe we (Dems and Reps) can only resolve our differences via the ballot box. But know this: The election is 14 months away....and we don't have the luxury of waiting 14 months."

OK, so where is the jobs bill that needs to be passed right now? Well, it hasn't been written yet. It will be presented to Congress within 2 weeks. There is also talk that since the super committee is going to have to find budget cuts to pay for the jobs bill that Obama might just wait until the committee is finished with their work, letting them craft the legislation. They are supposed to be meeting just before Thanksgiving. HUH?!! What happened to PASS THIS BILL NOW!?

The problem is that it's not a "jobs" bill at all. It's just another round of spending and tax increases. It will create no jobs.

    Obama is a slow learner.

I am so sick of this mantra that jobs have to be created by legislation--that somehow jobs are best created when the government allocates money toward certain initiatives (that they deem worthy) and either attempt to persuade or force efforts in one direction over another. It is a slap in the face of every individual, telling them that they cannot figure out how to do what they need to do to live and prosper on their own.

Of course, the idea is that people need to be "stimulated" into spending in a recession because of the "paradox of savings" and deflationary death spirals, which are fundamentally flawed. These policy wonks don't seem to realize that recessions such as the one we are in were caused by the very same type of policies!

When government has taken Americans resources away from them because they believe they have the right to spend their money and can do it better than they can then government has stepped in the way of jobs and the economy as a whole.

When government has created a hostile atmosphere for employers by excessive regulations then government has stepped in the way of employers creating jobs themselves.

Government can in effect create jobs at this point by getting out of the way of An American and free economy.

We need to open up all lines of creating energy ie gas, oil, coal, nuclear, wind, solar. That alone will create more than enough jobs to get the economy going. Bu this administration is holding the economy back through over the top and excessive regulations. Then he uses public funds to prop up his union buddies who force excessive contracts that also break the bank of the companies because neither those contracts nor taxes and regulation will support a free economy.

I don't think anyone is saying that government is the BEST creator of jobs. The government should be the spender of last resort. That's kind of where we're at right now because the private sector is not creating jobs.

Reagan achieved this is the early 1980's by doling out billions of dollars in R&D money for the Strategic Defense Initiative. It was government spending to create jobs (through private contractors), yet you didn't hear much complaining from conservatives because it was defense spending.

No conservatives looked to that for job creation or economy boosting.

No conservatives. None at all viewed the funding of SDI as a job creator? Get real.

Now, one could say that SDI wasn't conceived as a government jobs program, but jobs creation was certainly a healthy side benefit. In fact, it was brilliant in that it built up our defenses AND created jobs, two objectives that were sorely needed in the early 80's.
