The Emergent Church – Emerging into What?

    The following article not only describes much of the church today, but sadly this has crept into the Baptist church. Canada and England are overrun with this in one sort or another. Though such a claim may be denied the proof is in the seeing. While some feel this will pass and I pray such is true and it could not come too soon, I feel we are seeing the falling away and it will only progress which makes prayer even more needed to slow what is becoming a downhill race to destruction...

    It appears that the "Emergent Church", from this article and others I have read, is a Emerging MESS.

    This one in New Jersey has gained a large following of young people. note that the 3 locations are all very affluent communities. They function as community centers for the young. They also capture allot of Catholics who are disgusted with the RCC.

    The Emergent Church is different from the emerging church. The emerging church movement is largely dissipated into other movements over the last five years. The Emergent Church is a loose confederation of pastors and thinkers who have sought to offer a theological correction to the conservative, evangelical traditionalism which was failing to engage with a growing non-foundationalist epistemology in the western world. Sadly the offer they presented has ended up being a rehashing of 19th Century Protestant Liberalism (notice the capital L please.)

    The article is okay but it makes a lot of false assumptions. (Besides I don't trust the author's credentials) But those of us who have been involved in the emerging conversation are used to this.

    The initial influences of the emerging conversation have produced some great things by opening up the ecclesiological environment that was choking evangelism. Many of the leaders in these early years continue to contribute with both powerful ministries and challenging texts.

    I see them as being akin/brothers to say the "seekers" movement...

    Both attempting to 'appeal" to modern society by repackaging Christianity, but by tring to "moderize' the mesasge of jesus, they have reduced the Gospel and Jesus, so they are now following the path to diamantling the Bible and Christianity, so they will be denying some cardinal truths!

    As they already going down path of "we understand things better than paul did, more education and science" and also that God might be saving all regardless on they view Jesus!
