What to do with damaged Bible?

    I have a Crusade Topical Reference Bible with many notes from years of church and Bible study. An unsaved relative who has an alcohol problem destroyed this Bible after drinking heavily and being under the influence of a TV movie in which the King James Bible was mocked. Most of the Bible cannot be used anymore. The pages are ripped to pieces. First please pray that this relative gets under conviction and gets saved. Luckily I found another used Bible like that since it is no longer in print. Then I want to know what most of you would do with a damaged Bible. In my personal witnessing I have often placed used Bibles in countless places such as state park laundromats, waiting rooms and other public places. But what would you do with a Bible destroyed by the aggression of an unbeliever? Would you throw it away? Would you bury it or hide it? If you keep it, it will testify of the act of agression. If you throw it away, a trash worker might get the idea that you are a Bible hater. I have heard of landfill workers joining political organizations because they picked up the organization's magazine out of the trash coming from a dump trunk. Please let me know what you think.

    I'd probably spend some time going through the pieces to see if there were notes I would like transfer. Then I would pay the relative a visit and explain to him why "I" treasured that Bible and how it made a difference in "my" life. I would tell him that I was offended and hurt that he would thoughtlessly destroy my personal property and that he had no right to do so. Finally, I would tell him that I forgive him and would throw it away in front of him in "his" trash...maybe after pulling out a select page or two to set on his counter. Next time I saw him I would be sure not exhibit any hard feelings about it and only discuss it with grace if he brought it up.

    I would never throw away a Bible. Put it up on a shelf somewhere.

    If the Bible is destroyed, it is destroyed. We don't need to keep Bibles that are no longer useable because God's Word endures forever even if we throw away one that is no longer readable.

    Personally, I'd put it in recycling or else burn it and thank God for it's usefulness while I had it. Then move on.

    But if the Bible is still useable, definitely leave it somewhere that someone might find it. :)

    My son left his Bible on a stump outside the house. The dog got it an tore it asunder. I made my son pick up the lose pages blowing all over the yard. I took the intact pages, the loose pages, and threw them in the garbage, took some money from my son, and purchased him a new Bible. When a Bible wears out or is damaged beyond repair it is useless. As Ann says, throw it away or burn it.

    I would burn it. It's customary to burn the flag when it gets old and tattered out of respect and not to be treated as garbage. I think the bible deserves at least that much.

    Sad story but I'd transfer the notes or anything important and toss it.

    Though the contents are important, it is just a book and not inherently divine.

    As for the relative, well, I'd explain how badly he hurt you and ask him to pay for a new one.

    I guess Im a winnie LOL :laugh: I dont think I could ever throw a bible away, I just dont have it in me.

    I would just say try and think of a good use for it :thumbsup:

    No time to get superstitious. It is just a book, and once useless, destroy it. The word of God is in the word, not the physical book.

    I can understand not wanting to see a Bible in a garbage pit - but in the States most communities do have recycling - I don't see a problem with that
