I was at a IndiBap men's conference in the fall of 2009 and one of the headlining preachers there preached a message in which he talked about the idea 'God hates waste'. I had never heard the statement before but the more I thought about it the more I found I disagreed with the idea. I can see some areas where that would be true but also could see how potentially in many areas that the idea would not be accurate... or at least what the preacher would classify as 'waste' would not be considered truly 'waste'.

What do you think, does God hate waste?

There is no evidence(that I have found), where God “hates” waste....
    Proverbs 6:16-19
V.16 These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yea, seven [are] an abomination unto him:
V.17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
V.18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
V.19 A false witness [that] speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

    --------------------------------------------------
And although God hates sin, he may not like waste........
    Matthew 10:29
“Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.”

    --------------------------------------------------
But nothing is ever a waste, if it’s done for the Lord.....
    Matthew 26:7-8
V.7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat [at meat].
V.8 But when his disciples saw [it], they had indignation, saying, To what purpose [is] this waste?

What was the point of the message? Was he referring to self indulgence as waste? I would tend to agree with that.

In light of this passage I would agree with you:

1 Cast thy bread upon the waters; for thou shalt find it after many days.
2 Give a portion to seven, yea, even unto eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth; and if a tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there shall it be.
4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.
5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the wind, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child; even so thou knowest not the work of God who doeth all. Ecc 11
