    per the NT...

was it JUST for those who were saved in Acts?

    A second act of grace?

optional/additional Power to live/witness for jesus?

Act where the HS 'placed" us into the Body of Christ?

Different/same as the "baptism by Fire?"

To add to the discussion, we might address the differences (if any)in being baptized WITH the Holy Spirit, baptized BY the Holy Spirit, baptized IN the Holy Spirit, being FILLED WITH the Holy Spirit. or being given the GIFT of the Holy Spirit? Or, are they different ways of saying the same thing?

By the way, Acts 2 does not tell us that what happened was the baptism of the HS. It says in v4 that they were all FILLED with the HS.

And Peter said this was a fulfillment of Joel's prophecy that "in the last days, I will POUR OUT my Spirit upon all flesh."

And later he said salvation is accompanied by the GIFT of the Holy Spirit (v. 38)

A bunch of goobly glob. In, by, with, are all the same. The Baptism with the Spirit is done to all at salvation. It is a work of God where God takes His Spirit and Baptizes us with Him at salvation.
We are to be filled with the Spirit as a command for us to accomplish.

So when Scriptures via Holy Spirit use different terminologies and descriptive wording it's a bunch of "goobly glob"?

Tom Butler made good points of discussion.

You might want to bone up on the scriptures. The English does use different words, Many times the Greek will be the same word translated differently.

No need for that. We're talking about the English, not the Greek definiions (not as you say in error "Greek context").

The English variations are not goobly glob.

Keewp in mind we weren't discussing only in/with/by, but also "filled" &c.

For you to call this goobly glob is quite interesting.

To my understanding, the baptism of/with/by HS happens to all of us at point of salvation, as that act of Him places us in the body of Christ...

HS dwells in every believer , but its up to the believer to have Him filled him up, as that involves submitting to His empowering daily basis!

By the way, Acts 2 does not tell us that what happened was the baptism of the HS. It says in v4 that they were all FILLED with the HS.

And Peter said this was a fulfillment of Joel's prophecy that "in the last days, I will POUR OUT my Spirit upon all flesh."

Yet in 1:5 Jesus says, For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Was that that not the fulfillment in 2?

However did absolutely everything quoted from Joel happen on that day of Pentecost when Peter was speaking. In the last days, plural. Was this just the beginning for these things to begin to happen.? Was the Spirit poured out on all flesh that day or only on those who were to be the firstfruits of the Spirit?

ALL believers are equally filled, indwelled, etc by the Holy Spirit. It is religious elitists who draw a difference between the indwelling & filling of the Spirit to support their claims of a special understanding of spiritual matters. We are equal priests in the priesthood of believers under the High Priest who mediates the New Covenant.

No, the apostles had received the Spirit earlier in Jn 20:22.

Jn 20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost.

This is when they received the Holy Spirit, a fulfillment of Jn 7:37-39. So, the baptism or filling of the Spirit is something different, it is a special (and conditional) empowerment of the Spirit for a specified purpose.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.

The apostles already had the indwelling Spirit, but this was something extra, this was a giving of power that they might boldly testify and be witnesses for Jesus.

And has been noted, this power is temporary, as you see the apostles being "filled" on numerous occasions. Acts 4:8, 31, Note in vs. 31 it says they spoke the word of God with boldness. In vs. 33 it says with great power gave the apostles witness.

I do not necessarily disagree with you. To be honest I do not know.

So when we are saved and given the promise of the Holy Spirit, are we breathed on or baptized or filled?

What about Thomas when was he indwelt with the Spirit? Are we to assume Jesus breathed on him eight days later?

That is not true. We are commanded to be filled. That is something we do so we all are not filled.

bible itself draws the distinction here though!

ALL of the saved have the HS dwelling/residing in them, but those who are "carnal" Christians do not allow Him to enable/empower them to live for God...

    Your choice here...
rely upon the person/power of the HS, keep abding in Christ and be fruitful...

Chose to walk in your own strenght, still fail and have persistamt sin areas problems!
