Need help finding a good school

Piedmont Baptist College (Soon to change to PIedmont International University) is extending its teaching program. There are pros and cons to this school. If you do the teaching degree, they have a dual enrollment w/ High Point University to get your state license and regionally accredited degree. Plus you get a decent (not amazing) Bible education. Their grad school is expanding as well (though I think they are in over their heads when it comes to a terminal degree). They will soon be offering an MEd and a MA in ministry for lay servants (great for SS teachers). But I recommend this school b/c you can get your Bible and teacher training from one place.

 

You will get a lot of advise, I would throw most of it out. Namely, I would find out what colleges would support your theological beliefs and find a regionally accredited school.

For education, I do recommend my alma mater, Liberty University. They have a good education program. For ministry, I would give it a D+, and I am a graduate of their religion program. Yet, I do think their undergraduate is probably around a C. The problem would be is if you had different theological views, then this would not be a good choice.

 

Liberty is the first program I thought of. Their program is pretty solid and distance. I've had interns in my room from their grad program (M.Ed).

I know some people who have gone to Piedmont. Some chose to teach in Christian education and did not pursue the state licensure. I wouldn't recommend that in today's financial climate - options are nice Are you willing to relocate? They are in NC. And in Winston Salem which happens to be a beautiful town.

 

Teaching is a very unique job and each state has their own unique requirements to get certified to teach in their state, and to teach in the state you must be certified by that state. So to first answer your question, it would greatly depend on the state you want to teach in.

Also not to discourage you or persuade you one way or the other but I can tell you teaching jobs can be difficult to find right now. I would also say History is one of the subjects there isn't a big demand for. Private schools are an option, though a lot of them (at least around here) favor certified teachers, and there is a significant pay cut usually.

 

I got a M.A. from Liberty and did it all online. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have since visited the campus several times. Great school.

 

Make sure you get your degree from a regionally accredited University/College. I've heard too many stories of people who have had to start over because they made the mistake of going the non-accredited route. Liberty University is a wonderful school and that would be my suggestion.
