Great! They can start by recognizing the inspiration of the Scriptures because if they don't start with that they will go no further in any kind of revival because revival comes by preaching the Bible as God's Word.

    How wonderful!

    Not.

They're calling on repentance when they endorse and support the so called alternate lifestyle and embrace those who practice it, calling them "christian"?

They should call themselves to wake up first and foremost and call upon these to repent, and firstly repent of this acceptance themselves.

I seriously and highly doubt this "revival seeking" of churches in general.

Christians today have learned to find a loophole within any practiced sin, with any and all personal errors in their theology, have learned that their own subjective truth means more than the objective truth of Scriptures ("Well, what the Bible means to me here is..."), lean more on their own reason and logic, have proof-text theologies to rebutt truth, and find in their personal obstinance all and any reason not to obey the truths of Scripture, sit, judge and critique their preachers sermons, finding and hoping to land upon one little piece of disagreement, embrace that, and in turn throw out the truths intended for them.

I think the Bible (the God of the Scriptures) may have predicted this attitude?

Revival comes from the Holy Spirit.

I am reading Ian Murray's book Revival and Revivalism. Great book. While you cannot make revival happen, genuine revival usually occurs through solid doctrinal teaching and a spiritual vibrancy. This is what I have said before, but it is great to hear it from other sources.

You do realize that there are evangelicals within the UMC, right? The denomination itself does not condone same-sex relationships, but some within the denomination do. There is a significant minority within the UMC pushing to return to a more conservative stance.

There is no such thing as Holy Spirit revival APART from the preaching and teaching of God's Word! IF you reject the Bible as God's Word you are rejecting the Author of God's Word - The Holy Spirit!

I don't reject God's Word. I just wanted to make sure that the HS's role isn't diminished. You can preach God's Word all day and a revival won't happen unless the Holy Spirit gets involved.

Being evangelical doesn't exclude one from this because of their title.

You do realize this don't you?

    Loophole anyone?

What happens is people today reject the preacher who preaches the Word faithfully. They deny it is from God, and they resist the Holy Spirit through the Word of God being preached.

Just like they did to the prophets within the Old Testament.

But yes, it is both, the Holy Spirit uses the Word of God to bring revival.

There is real danger in seeking revival if it is not sought according to the truth revealed in God's Word.

Many "revival" movements in the past were actually seeking revival through some supernatural object of lust and what occurred is another false religion(s). Satan will always fill any vacuum that the Word of God or Truth does not occupy.
