So, a 50 year old that exercises can be as fit as a 20 something couch potato. I see it every day. That study is as worthwhile as a study on how your thumb feels after being hit by a hammer. However, in the interest of science, I will perform the study. Who wants to volunteer? I will provide the hammer and a 2X4. :D

Ha, I didn’t notice the comparison was to inactive 20 year olds. But I’ll tell you what though, I’m 53 and recently trained with a 26 year old national MMA competitor (3 weeks out of a contest in Vegas) who is in my weight class and he couldn’t maintain my weight loads and really struggled to keep my pace. In fairness, I should admit that I took him through a routine I was used to and fatigued him at the beginning to get him where I wanted him…some of us “old” guys know to humiliate the youngsters.

But can a 50 year old be in as good of condition as most 20 year olds? This is me (an only somewhat commited 53 year old) a couple days ago, and yeah I know I need to work those abs:

I have seen many 40-50-60 year old carpenters and masonry workers that put much younger workers to shame. I am out of shape, but I still do more than some younger people doing the same job. I am amazed by the slow and lackadaisical effort that some of these young kids put into the job.
